Cadillac to give Escalade, SRX the “V” treatment, minus the power

03/22/2006, 9:08 AM

By admin

Cadillac plans to offer sport appearance packaged for the Cadillac SRX and Escalade that will add a number of V-Series design cues. However, the kits will be missing one thing: V-Series performance. According to a new report by Edmunds, Cadillac does not plan to create a true V-Series Escalade or SRX — only an appearance kit. The report echos a recent Forbes story that indicated manufacturers like Mercedes and Cadillac would not build high performance-versions of their large SUVs. For example, Mercedes has no plans for an AMG version of the GL-Class, and Caddy isn’t interested in building an Escalade-V. The reason in both cases is the trucks are simply too large.

“My Escalade looks faster than yours.”

“Yeah, well it’s not.”

This isn’t any different from what many premium automakers do. With BMW’s, for example, you can order their “M-Appearance kits” for any model in their lineup. I don’t see why Cadillac couldn’t or shouldn’t do the same. They’re moneymakers.

It’s just an oem custom body kit. Sounds like a good idea.

Putting a bigger engine in the Escalade = people roll over and die & GM get sued for no good reason.

As long as they do not put a “V” badge on it or mention any relationship to the V-Series, then I think it will be fine. Otherwise it may dilute the preformace image of the v-series, which they have worked so hard to achieve.

this is true, i despise domestics for trying too hard but the V series is a true line up of performance domestics (besides SVT which…doesnt really count…), even though i think the XLR-V is a complete rip off and the STS-V could never touch that class’ competition.

I would prefer it the other way around… make it a V-series without the appearance package… all stealth mode.
