last time I checked, the CTSv is the fastest sedan in the world around ‘the ring’ and last time i checked, that track didnt have very many ‘california straights’. So you get the STFU award for that comment. And in retort to you people who say caddy is a one trick pony I know some one else who is as well. BMW!! The 3 Series is on my list of cars to own before I die but I cant say the same for the rest of BImmers line up. The 1 Series albeit a fantastic car is super small and way over priced, the 5 series?? just give me a CTS, the 7series has been playing second fiddle to the S Class for years and years, and the X5–how can an SUV get up to 67K and not have a back up camera??!! I leave my personal preferences aside and let the performance numbers do the talking. I dont claim allegiance based on brand, perceived prestige, or price point. I simply let the score board do the talking. So even if you feel that 90% of Caddy line up is crap it doesnt change the fact the CTSv is the fastest and best handling sedan available. Period

Masteryoda- I'll let SomeGreek's response override any desire I might have to respond to your claims about the CTSv.

I would like to let you know that I do not hate America (In spite of what the genius BUYUSA thinks- it is not necessary to hate America in order to admit that your domestic car industry has been royally shagged). In fact, I have family & some very close friends there- last time I went I loved it. I drive a new Chevy SUV so I have some experience of contemporary GM product. What's more, I totally agree with you that BMW's suck. I hate them- they're ugly, crass, brash, hard-riding and overtly aggressive. The X6 is an abomination.

I'm not biased against US cars because I have any underlying hatred for America (although when people spew pathetic comments like that you can half-understand why some people do feel that way). I am not biased against US cars at all. I have an opinion, based on experience. And as far as I know I am afforded the right to have my own opinion, whatever it may be. Different strokes and all that...

However, repeatedly insisting that something is the fastest and best-handling sedan available does not make it true. Neither does appending the word PERIOD to the end of a subjective statement. The CTSV is, apparently, a bloody good car, probably the best Caddy in many years. It's true. But that doesn't make it a world standard by any stretch of the imagination. Sorry my little green jedi but that's just the way it is. Try appending the phrase IN MY OPINION to your subjective statements instead of the word PERIOD.

Oh, and by the way, you should keep your STFU award and put it with the 'Best Cadillac Ever' award that the CTSV just got. Thanks anyway.

Voiture, stop wasting ur breath... he wont get it, cause he doesnt want to get it... the very same problem that GM has, since they, as someone on this board put it, stopped caring about

- the quality of their products
- the reasons why people used to buy their products
- the things customers WANT in their products

oh, and the true terrorists are companies that behave like that, cause they endanger the whole economy while only thinking about short-term profits....

Hey BuyUSA.

First of all, do not speak to me in that manner.

Second of all, those Caddys you just dissed are the ones that everybody loves, that is why they are prized collector's items.

Which Cadillac would be more accepted/liked in Europe?

A mint condition 1970 Eldorado convertible.

Or

A mint Cimmaron from 1982.

A mint Allante from 1987.

A mint Catera from 1997.

A well-kept CTS from 2003.

A well-kept XLR from 2005.

A brand new 2009 CTS.

A brand new 2009 STS.

A brand new 2009 BLS.

I think we both know the answer, hence Caddy being pulled from most European markets.

OWNED.

V1:

"Caddy, please come back to your roots and stop trying to please people who will NEVER give you a chance."

You're damn right.

Though truthfully, the CTS is just as good as any other mid-size luxury sedan.

BuyUSA: "Buy American. It’s the right thing to do."

I suppose in a vacuum, that statement might make some sense. But if a foreign company makes a better product, there's something to be said for buying that.

I tested a CX-9 and a Subaru Tribeca before buying my Buick.

I didn't buy it because it's my patriotic duty or some horce-excrement like that.
I bought it because it was the best car.

If people stick to that standard, they'll have themselves to thank.

"Caddy, please come back to your roots and stop trying to please people who will NEVER give you a chance. This has gone on long enough already. (Since 1982 with the Cimarron)."

Here we go again, another idiot who compares Cimarrons and Cateras to the Current CTS-V.

You want Cadillac to return to it's roots? Then you must be talking about the overchromed land barges with gas-guzzling V-8 engines of yesteryear that i know you import morons hate so much.

I love old Cadillacs probably more than anyone else on this forum, but i think maybe you need to get a clue and come back correct.

Nobody over there will miss them.

I do not care how good the CTS supposedly handles.

I do not care how fast the CTS is.

It will NEVER be considered in the same class as BMWs, Mercs, Audis, etc in the minds of the people who love those cars, not in America, nor in Europe.

This will serve Cadillac right for turning their back on their core customers and the types of cars that made it famous.

People who think the CTS has finally gotten the blessing of these snobs and the motoring/internet press that caters to them are kidding themselves.

On the other hand, REAL Cadillacs are appreciated in Europe by the people who appreciate what the brand was. It is a small bunch, but still they exist.

Nobody in Europe likes or wants any Cimmarons, Allantes, Cateras, CTSs, or BLSs. If they did, they would sell, which they do not, hence the pullout.

Caddy, please come back to your roots and stop trying to please people who will NEVER give you a chance. This has gone on long enough already. (Since 1982 with the Cimarron).

llun00,

Most of the people that come on here to bash the US auto industry really just have an underlying hatred for America. In fact, it has little to do with the actual quality and performance of the cars themselves, which now meets or exceeds the finest of imports, but it has everything to do with a misguided view that everything American is "evil."

These scumbags (you know who you are) somehow equate a failure of the big three as revenge against Bush. Nothing short of a complete collapse of this country will satisfy these animals. This is the same type of mentality the hijackers on 9/11 had.

This latest round of idiotic and wrong-headed comments have just confirmed my earlier suspicions about who these people really are.

BOTH foreign and domestic enemies must be defeated.

Buy American. It's not just a matter of jobs, it's a matter of national security as well.

Guys, Just stop slagging cali.
I see right through your jealousy.
yeah, we've got granola here, but an eight-month bikini season and every conceivable entertainment option makes it easy to ignore.

Now go scrape your windshields!

Well, GM products (at least for the discount brand which basically is Daewoos with a different badge on them), are hugely expensive. I live in Denmark (near sweden if anobody doesnt know) :), and it is probably the most expensive country in the world to purchase a car in, but still:

A 2005 C6 (6 litre), with about 30,000 miles on it is for sale for the sum of 700,000 danish crownes, or to put it in dollars: About 127,000 $.

A cadillac CTS-V 2.8 V6 automatic - 2008 with about 5,000 miles on it - is 750,000 crownes - or about 136,000 $ dollars - aint nobody gonna by a car priced like that. If people are gonna pay that kinda money in europe they buy benz, audi or bmw.

I live in Denmark (near sweden if anobody doesnt know) , and it is probably the most expensive country in the world to purchase a car in, but still:

A 2005 C6 (6 litre), with about 30,000 miles on it is for sale for the sum of 700,000 danish crownes, or to put it in dollars: About 127,000 $.

Ed103: They used a Challenger not a Charger, and James(One of the guys in Top Gear) hated the Cadillac he had until they went through the mountains

This was no surprise, the only Cadillac I like is the CTS-V, and is the only one worth it.

from my business-trips, i must agree with raineman, after the bush-years, perception of anything american has changed around the world. while it was coll and aspirable before, this has changed with the reign that guy had. as an american, you dont have a bonus anymore in the rest of the world, you'll start (if your lucky) with equal chances. chances are, though, that there will always be a certain ... cautiousness ... with the people you talk to... not sure if they expect you to suddenly start another war or stage another faked election or spouter things like "no sex before marriage"...
dont think people do that by decision... but i cant really judge them for that, either... the US has acted and reacted really stupid throughout the bush-years....
this, of course had its effects on their perception of US-Products, and with raising gas-prices (7-8$ per gallon), the huge, yet ineffecient gas-guzzlers and the constant whining about 4$per gallon in the US, one may understand why the rest of the world sees the US as uncaring, ignorant and stupid.

stating this is no sign of hate towards the US, its rather the current status quo... which will hopefully change sooner than later, cause i know the US has the potential to prove those ideas wrong... i just hope it would finally start doing so (obama, like him or not, has been a huge step forward in that direction, though)

comments like "buyusa" is spoutering... well... lets call them contraproductive at the very least... this is, to quote rumsfeld, OLD America...

Should of keep the CTS 3-series size. The first one was great, I'm not saying the new one sucks but it's too big. Cadillac will never do good outside of NA.

MasterYoda05, nobody else tried at the Ring... There are no official times by BMW, Audi or Mercedes. Caddy won a race, running alone. Still, the CTS-V must be a great performer but it's the only world class model in the range.
jackjimturkey sums up the situation accurately.

RaineMan clearly is not American. He gave himself away by his spelling of the word "realise." Americans spell it with a "z". Europeans and Canadians etc. spell it with an "s". He was obviously too dumb to "realize" his mistake. Busted. Too much of a coward as well, apparently. Seeing as how he felt the need to hide behind a fake persona to be a bigot.

You said Cadillac invented and introduced many features and innovations that was copied by many other companies.
Do you know any of these features?
ABS, bluetooth, SRS, wipers, alloy wheel, windshild, disk brakes, Navi, the tail light or head lights ?
what was it they did?
Anyways I know you cant answer that couse they didnt do anything...

Catalick set the standard with the Escalade as the most powerful full size luxury SUV in the world

There is a reason they are gone in 5years....

Ed103 - What's with the ignorant stereotypes? You've been inhaling too much brain cell killing smog out there in LALA land. I drive a Suburban (among other vehicles). I am not fat, I am not lazy, and I am not an idiot (I have a near-genius level I.Q., and I hold an MBA). Your own state governer, Arnold, drives a Hummer - he's far from being fat, lazy, or an idiot. I drive a Suburban because I both need and want the utility it offers, and I use its capabilities very often.

Why did you distinguish Californians from Americans? Are you not part of the United States of America, and thus an American? Oh, right, you're actually a member of the People's Republik of Kalifornia.

And BTW, I have a 7-year old Corvette that will out-handle whatever Euro or Japanese car you might own that you think handles well. Name it and bring it. If I still lived in CA, I would give you a first hand demonstration.

Cadillac IS the standard of the world. It just set the standard with the CTS-V, and it set the standard with the Escalade as the most powerful full size luxury SUV in the world. It recently set the standard as the only full size hybrid luxury SUV in the world.

And over the years, Cadillac invented and introduced many features and innovations that all of you ignorant fools take for granted today. So show some respect before you spew forth such nonsense. That includes you, LLN editor who wrote this article. Are you a Toyota brand manager, or are you an objective, non-biased journalist? If you're not the latter, you should quit.

Deepheat--last time I checked, the CTSv is the fastest sedan in the world around 'the ring' and last time i checked, that track didnt have very many 'california straights'. So you get the STFU award for that comment. And in retort to you people who say caddy is a one trick pony I know some one else who is as well. BMW!! The 3 Series is on my list of cars to own before I die but I cant say the same for the rest of BImmers line up. The 1 Series albeit a fantastic car is super small and way over priced, the 5 series?? just give me a CTS, the 7series has been playing second fiddle to the S Class for years and years, and the X5--how can an SUV get up to 67K and not have a back up camera??!! Period

Where is "NMOFGM"? He needs to get together with BuyUSA and declare war against Europe right now!!!

Anyway very stupid move, especially considering they have their diesel V6 ready for production. A diesel V6 was the missing link and possible reason for future success in Europe for the CTS, would give a chance against Mercedes, Audi, and BMW.

RaineMan says:
"What Americans need to wake up and realise is that most people in the world don’t aspire to be like us anymore. At one time America was the shining light… now we are seen as desensitized, uncaring, stupid, and overly wasteful. Driving “an American car” isn’t the wonderful thing that it was once made to be."

Thanks for sharing your hatred for America. Why don't you pack your bags and move to the middle east? At least there you might have an audience.

At one time America was the shining light… now we are seen as desensitized, uncaring, stupid, and overly wasteful. Driving “an American car” isn’t the wonderful thing that it was once made to be.”

Thanks for sharing your hatred for America. Why don’t you pack your bags and move to the middle east? At least there you might have an audience.

Cadillac always has been, and will always continue to be the "Standard Of The World." The current lineup reinforces that fact.

Buy American. It's not just a matter of jobs, it's a matter of national security as well.

Caddy is a tough sell on the Continent.
What with the Euro-spec Benzes and BMWs, the displacement taxes and other factors..

And yeas, Standard of the World it once was.

Outside of the CTS line, the rest of Cadillac's line-up consists of also-rans.

Escalade - big in NA, but the Range Rover is king everywhere else

DTS - poor man's S-Class, and an upscale airport taxi

STS - a decent alternative to the Euro midsizers.

XLR - they still make those?

One gem does not mean that Cadillac is suddenly a world beater across the range, let alone the Standard of the World. Two more world beaters, then sure. Cadillac rightfully lost that distinction when a Cavalier became a Cadillac.

I completely agree that nearly all GM cars are rubbish. When Top Gear did an episode with a Caddy, Charger and Corvette, I was VERY surprised that they liked the cars. They even said that super Corvette was good on a mountain road with corners, that possibility is weird to me.

I live in Los Angeles, California, and despite the perception that we can storm through straight freeways all day long, that is not the case. Our freeways suck because they're uneven and full of traffic, but there are some places where handling matters. We have canyon roads 30 minutes from downtown that will challenge any car and a stretch of the 110 freeway that, while less than 10 miles long, is a great drive to blast through, because it was built to follow a winding creek bed.

Anyway, my point is that there are Americans, and Californians, who love cars that can corner as much as Europeans. Don't think we're all fat, lazy, Suburban/Expedition/Hummer driving idiots-Just a lot of us.

@ JakeK66 , they sell Corvettes in Europe , but they are really expensive and because of the huge engine you have to pay some serious taxes in a lot of countries in Europe. As fan said , the Corvette is viewed as a pimp mobile and usually associated with bad taste.

GM tried hard to change that mentality with the C6 and they partially succeeded, but people who can afford a Corvette here expect a bit of creature comfort from a car, not just pure performance , cause they can buy a Lotus for pure performance.

Cloud cuckoo land 'master yoda'. There is nothing world standard about Cadillac- experience the rest of the world for yourself and you'll notice that we have corners every now and then. The 'figures' you state are all about straight lines. Fine for California freeways.

Why GM would continue to flog these things in the UK market I don't know. I have seen 9 month old demonstrators for sale at 40% of the list price. Staggeringly cheap. They can't give them away.

We don't want them.

GM is obviously going through tough times right now. Them pulling their Cadillac brand in certain places is a good idea, if its not selling their then we have to redirect and look at different options. and in Respone to Ring-Taxi's comment Caddilac doesnt have to be sold in every corner of the world to be considered a World Standard. Say what you want about GM but you cant refute the fact that they build a car that kicks the feet from under the M5, E63, RS6,S8 and alot of other two door sports cars. If we just let the numbers do the talking the CTS-V is the world standard when it comes to super sedans because nothing in its class out their can beat it.

This summer I visited my Dad's hometown of Nafplio, Greece - seaside port city with population of 30,000 surrounded by citrus farms, about 100 miles southwest of Athens.

I kid people not: I passed a Cadillac dealer - separate from the local Opel dealers, that actually had a couple CTSs in the showroom.

But with all the Porsche Cayennes and Audi Q7s (mostly Diesels) that I saw this summer, the occasional Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8s, and a few Audi RS-8s - notwithstanding $7 per gallon gasoline - never did I see one CTS on the road.

Problem is those CTSs with the V-6 get huge engine displacement tax which raises the price paid to more than $60,000.

That is Mercedes E-class money.

You have to wonder what are they going to do with those unsold CTSs?
