Cadillac to unveil Provoq concept at CES tomorrow

01/07/2008, 12:42 PM

By Drew Johnson

In addition to revealing General Motors’ future plans for driverless vehicles, Rick Wagoner will also take the wraps off of a new Cadillac concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas tomorrow. Dubbed the Provoq, GM hasn’t released many details on the concept, but did say that the car is “a vision for a petroleum-free future of luxury transportation.”

Judging by that statement, it would be safe to assume that the Provoq will be powered by an all-electric powertrain, a hydrogen powertrain or a combination of the two. GM showed a bodyless-version of its E-flex platform — the same that underpins the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Flextreme — with a hydrogen range extender at the Shanghai Motor Show, leaving the door open for a possible Cadillac model.

No other details were given, but the Provoq will bow at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14th, so check back for more details and live images.

wow A4.

Provoq? Reminds me of Evoq. Hope it’s a sports car or at least looks good like past Caddy concepts (Sixteen, etc).

“A vision.” You know what that means. Something that could save them that’s never going to be built. It’s kind of frustrating to see GM and Ford flush their future away when the solution is so obvious…

Yet another concept that will never see the light of day. I once saw a coffee-table book of GM’s concepts that went back to the 1950’s. Of those maybe a handful actually made it to production, if only in a watered-down, bean-countered, and badged-engineered manner…

I love the concept cars that end up on the Barrett-Jackson auction block. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but one guy paid 5 million or something for that 1950’s Olds concept that was to be their version of the first Vette.

It is scheduled to debut right after Volt.

Just another PR stunt by GM. The Volt is never coming…just a lot of concept photos and clay models. GM had an electric car in 1995…EV-1. They act like they need more research on electric/battery vehicles…they know how to build them now, but they won’t. Cadillac…these buyers don’t give a crap about saving money on gas.

I was kinda feeling the same way jdasch1, it’s like we keep hearing about the Volt, but I don’t see one on the streets…. So let’s put out another fuel saving concept, so everyone can stare at it.

The Japanese concepts are usually so off-the-wall everyone knows they won’t get built. GM always makes some damned hot looking concepts that make you drool, then you go down to your local Chevy/Buick/GMC/Pontiac/Hummer/Cadillac/Saturn dealer and hang your head in shame. I’m tired of getting teased.

I agree. If Cadillac is Top Dog at GM build world standard cars.

Let the designers make Cadillac great again.
