A California state senator who voted to ban cell phone usage while driving crashed her SUV late last week while reaching for a ringing cell phone, the Marin Independent Journal has reported.
California senator Carole Migden rear-ended a 2005 Honda sedan that stopped at a red light, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Migden was uninjured and no charges were laid since the accident was relatively minor. She was driving a state-issued 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV.
KCRA reports police received complaints from half a dozen motorists about Migden’s erratic driving just prior to the crash.
“We have drivers calling from apparently down in Berkeley all the way up to where she crashed,” CHP Officer Marvin Williford said Tuesday. “Her driving was just erratic.
Two of the witnesses who called 911 said Migden grazed a the concrete barrier, several miles before her accident.
“Based on her (Migden’s) statement and the damage to her car, we know that she hit something. We’re trying to determine where she hit it,” Williford said.

A Democrat not practicing what she preaches? Nonsense! (Disclaimer: Not that Republicans are that much better)
Other sources are saying she won’t be charged with anything, not even reckless driving. Also one source saying that she responded to the possibility of charges something along the lines of “You can’t do that, I’m a senator”. I love Democrats.

No charges? Wow, i need to be a senator so when people call 911 about my driving, or even if i cause traffic accidents i won’t get charged for anything.

Does anyone seriously think that if congress had to abide by the law like the rest of us (and be subject to it as equals) that we’d have so many laws on the books in the first place? …yea. I didn’t think so either.
Now watch this windbag get re-elected next term. We can piss and moan all we want about elitist snobs like this senator, but getting pissed off with such headcases isn’t all that much different than blaming a toddler for screaming at a movie theatre. The blame lies with the inattentive parents, and likewise with the voters asleep at the wheel.
We get the government we deserve, folks.

Although I won’t go as far as wishing she’d died, it’s revolting how these people are above the law. The CHP Trooper should’ve given her a breathalyzer at the very least for her erratic driving. Should’ve had her license taken away and be cited for reckless driving, driving to endanger, and for hurting an innocent motorist. Anyone else would’ve been taken to jail, paid thousands in fine and have license suspension for 90-180 days. Nobody should be above the law period. Except Chuck Norris.

Driving while talking on cell phone is every bit as dangerous as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Almost without exception, when I see someone doing some irratic driving, they are on their cell phone. Using one while driving should treated just like DUI.

Although driving while talking/texting is a distraction and can be dangerous, it is NOT as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. Expect to see more citations for driving and talking, the hands free is generally accepted as “safe” practice by law in most cities.
If I had a dollar for every cop I saw driving and talking on cell, I’d probably have $25…

Impulsive, Carole Migden and Al Gore both share a hypocritical life style, but I dont think Piablo was comparing the accident to his house. She wants to ruduce accidents, however she causes one when shes destracted by her cell. Gore warns about global warming, however his house uses about 10 times the amount of energy of the normal home. They both preach for the better of mankind, but they really dont fallow their own rules. Its true the crash could have sent someone to the hospital and done some serious damage.
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Add this to the Jon Corzine incident and the hilarity of it is outrageous. These are the people we vote into office in this country. George “Love them illegals tending my ranch!” Bush, Ted “Never met a bottle of booze I didn’t like” Kennedy, Jon “Racing down the highway to bash Imus” Corzine, Hillary “Social(screwyouLLN)ism is my middle name” Clinton, John “What’s my position this week?” Kerry, John “What tv show am I on today?” McCain….I could go on forever. Now this twit.

If you are incapable of operating a cell phone and driving safely at the same time you should not be allowed behind the wheel. Is it more difficult to change the station on your stereo than to answer a cell phone or push speed dial? Compare lighting a cigarette to listening to your voice mail?
People are just stupid. Outlaw cell phones in cars and they will just replace it with something else to be distracted by.
The answer is to train drivers properly and create a better overall attitude towards using the road.
Typical political solution is to miss the real problem to begin with which in this case is letting women drive at all.

Fatstrat, I agree. A stint living in the UK showed me many things wrong about that country, but one thing they got right is the driving test. You have to learn with a stick, and they actually make you do things like stop and go on hills and whatnot to make sure you are fully capable. Compare that to the typical US test, which is to drive up and down the block and BAM, here’s your license. Hell, half the time they skip even the k-turn and parallel park tests.

I have very little to add to the already excellent comments on this hypocritical “do as I say” politician. The noy thing that I would add is that maybe we should tear up the voting cards of the people who put her and all the current crop of policians in office, Republican and Democrat. The American public is clearly incapable of making an informed decision given the current crop of rot and crap we have running on both sides for president all the way down to city council.
