Camaro Concept Video Podcast; Camaro to get Z06 engine?

01/10/2006, 8:24 AM

By admin

In the first video podcast on General Motors’ official FastLane corporate blog, the Wall Street Journal’s Detroit Bureau Chief Joe White interviews GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz at the North American International Auto Show about the design and heritage of the Camaro concept vehicle. Yesterday, GM officially unveiled the new Chevrolet Camaro Concept at NAIAS in Detroit. Lutz has also posted his thoughts on the Camaro Concept on the company’s blog. He mentions that if the Dodge Challenger’s 25 horsepower advantage over the Camaro becomes a problem, “I would just reply that we have a certified 1OO more on tap from the ZO6 engine, should the need arise.”

I have owned camaros for awhile now. I loved the LT1 and its horsepower. I have always loved the 69 model. In my opinion its the best looking muscle car of all time. Just sitting there its screaming muscle, start me up a step on it. I’ve been waiting for this car for two years now, ever since theres been rumors about the revamping of the 69. I would love to get my hands on this car. For the younger crowd who cant afford the Vette this is the way to go. I thinks this car kicks the mustangs butt, and what? “challenger who”?
This car rocks. Build this car and chevy will be king again. You need this car. We need it. Lutz build it.

I owned a 2000 Camaro SS, and now have a C6 Corvette, but the ‘69 Camaro has always been my favorite car. But this new concept is the best of all worlds….the flavor of ‘69, but with the modern muscle of my new C6 Corvette. I do love my Corvette, but if i could buy the concept Camaro as it is at the show, i would buy one today! Sorry C6, but it’s time to share the garage with your new brother!!!

I was disappointed when you stopped production of the camaro.I had dreams that you would bring the camaro back and my dream has hopefully come true.I have liked camaro’s for a very long time and yes the 69 was my favorite and it still is.Yes it is great the camaro is coming back so we can stomp the mustang and the challenger into the pavement and I hope we add another 100 hp to the 400 so we have edge over all of our competiters.Yes a muscle car that a middle class person can buy.I would also like it if it had the option of automatic or standard transmission. This is better then my christmas gifts that I received this year.Thank you G M Motors

I own a silver 98 Z28 and i saw this car in person at the autoshow and it looks about 10 times better then the mustang. The attention to detail is amazing. I want to get this one in silver and park it right next to the other one. GM needs to build this car they need something to compete with the mustang. The challanger is a big car, the Camaro with an LS2 or LS7 would take out the challanger and the mustang. But 505 hp would be nice. DONT LET US CAMARO LOVERS DOWN!

a muscle car needs to look like is ready to eat you up and spit you out without even stopping. I like it. It looks tough, out with the narrow and pointy front ends, in with big and bad look. A new eara, again.

hi

Im a long time camaro fan and i’ve seen alot of awsome concepts for the past few years of the new camaro but the one you have here looks like you took part of a mustang and a new charger put them together and called it a camaro i dont know what happened to you all. The concept i saw before this one was right on the money i dont know why you had to go and change it. By the way have you all put any thought into bringing back a real monte or chevelle theres a market for just that and your missing out on it too just as you are on the camaro. But just so you know with the drive train i know your going to use in the camaro you can count on my money just cause i’ve been waiting so long for this just to dust a new mustang in your new camaro

thanks jeff

Looks great! I have an 02′ Z06 but am not a GM or Ford or Porsche guy. I love all sports cars. This car looks like it can stand on its own and attract a new following as well as those that are die-hard Camaro people.

Caution: Keep it clean, fast and as light as possible, don’t let the bean counters and focus groups muddy the concept.

This will take the torch from the Mustang, but be aware that the Challenger is the only one that will make your heart “SKIP A BEAT “

GM has been setting back, for a while to see what ford was going to do. I only mention ford because they are still American owned, outside of GM. Its good to see the U.S. auto mans get it together. I have a 68 comaro all
still factory and it runs good to this day. I love the new one.

i Love cameros i have a 91 iroc z28 burgandy Almost stock. Let me tell you i love racing my friends 2004 mustang (eats my dust every time!!) when i saw the concept in moter trends magazine i bought 3 copies of it. I have to have it in that candy apple red and park it right next to my bosses new 2005 california edition mustang just to watch him cry and squirm at how weak the mustang lookes next to the new camero. Gm if you keep it just like you showed it in detroit you wont be able to make them as fast as youd be selling them. All I can say its about time but making us wait till 2009 to show up mustangs weak design now thats just freakin …. we need it NOW!!! i Mean it when they are ready for sale you best believe ill have one in my driveway!!!!!!!!!!!
The future of P.U.R.E AMERICAN MUSCLE Keep the pony in the garage where it belongs (out of sight out of my way!)

gm step on it pleaseeeee.i love my 96 LT1 ,even at 100,000 on odometer hangs still with the newest.but now is the time because while other automakers perfect what they already have by actially making their cars.gm pencil pushers are hidering gm cashflow.get it together and put this chiseled hunk of beef on the blocks of us camaro lovers.revive it now before the dodge and the ford sell 100s a thousands of there muscle cars and get so good they will do it cheaper.we want it nowwwww, because i see my edge soon slipping to a pc a crap f.o.r.d aka f**K*D ON RACE DAY!!hunk of generic switches and glitches!!! another thought as same time gm procratinates “pencil pushers” ,etc…100s a paper chasers are eating up the profit of there work that has been long finished!get me one because im hell bent on having 1,maybe even 2,mark my words!!!!!

This car is beautiful!! The pictures and videos do not do it justice! I went to the auto show in NY this past weekend and my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the new Camaro there!! I could not believe how amazing this car looked! I really hope this car hits dealerships in the near future because I would def. want to purchase this car! I just hope they dont change much of it if they decide to come out with it. I understand about the mirrors having to be a bit bigger and so on, but i hope they keep the majority of the car the same. And as for price, I’ve been told it may be priced to compete with the Mustang which isnt bad at all!
