Camaro convertible a near certainty

08/23/2006, 9:52 AM

By admin

General Motors tentatively plans to build a convertible version of its new Camaro for the 2010 model year, according to a published report. Citing sources at major GM suppliers familiar with the automaker’s plans, Edmunds says a drop-top Camaro will be positioned squarely against the equivalent Ford Mustang. No further details were given, but recent sketches by artist John McBride provide a pretty clear idea of how such a car would look.

Could easily embarrass the new M3 drop-top in a head-to-head when it gets the LS7.

um. one reason GM was such a successful manufacturer because they pioneered the idea of building a variety of cars on the same platform. It lowered expenses by spreading the cost of creating a car over more units.

New Name Today

This price of this car and the insurance costs will keep it to 48 year old female loan managers and 56 year old male Dentists…

Mullet-wearers will still be in their old Dusters and Novas.

wait… just curious how you know the price and insurance costs are going to be so high “new name today”, because I sure don’t. Please site your references if any.
Anyways I like the convertible alot but this Camaro must grow on me. I just don’t like it that much…
Let the pony car wars begin!

If this car is intended to be direct competition against the Mustang, wouldn’t the premiums be similar?

It seems to me that if you really wanted one of these cars and insurance premiums were an issue, maybe a 6-cylinder model might do it for you — depending on your tastes and driving style.

The fun is coming!

If you don’t like the specs design that’s one thing but what’s up with the insults on any one people/race. This blog should be about constructive criticisms and/or praise. It’s great to have a free society but with respect for others. Otherwise GROW UP.

Back to the subject GM needs to get of their behind and get this thing done. I’m sure when the real photo work or pictures come out it won’t disappoint. I saw the silver concept months ago and could easily envision a convertible. This thing will be an instant classic no mater how many they sell.

all these retro cars selling like crazy should give the big 3 time to re-think and re-engineer there cars and company, hopefully they’ll take the opportunity to over-haul the company and once retro is out, they’ll be-able to make new cars that sell

My girlfriend Bubbles is going to be so happy when I show her this. And to the Mullet commenters, most of us tie our hair back as not to offend you tight asses. This Camaro is going to be smokin hot, I hope it’s still got a tape player so I can crank my Winger tapes!

Now if I can just sell a few more washing machines that I have in my yard and in my basment, I’ll be able to save up enough to buy a Camaro. Yeehaw!

Real nice looking but it should come out EARLIER than 2010 for God sake. Can’t they do the camaro faster than 2009 its even going to be later than the Challenger. Real nice looking though if it looks like the drawing anyway. hopefully they will also offer the LS7 on this one too. nasty combination..

An IROC-Z would be a waste of money & time. Chevy stopped using the name IROC because they (International Race of Champions) wanted too much money for the right to use the name. Besides, IROC isn’t even relevant anymore so nobody would care. They’ll probably just stick to the three main trim levels: RS, Z-28, & SS.

Yes they should bring it out earlier, better competition for the upcoming Challenger and supposedly the Mustang is going to be redesigned sometime around then.
People will (and are) getting tired of all of this news about the Camaro. Every day or so for the past few days there has been atleast one or two articles on the Camaro. I like the older Camaros and the last gen of Camaro, but I don’t like this Camaro and that’s that to me. But they aren’t creating more hype about it if that’s what they’re trying to do.

Anyone need a washer or dryer? I have a bunch of them sitting in my garage and on my lawn and I need tomake room for my new Camaro. Oh, I have a couple of Stoves and dishwashers too but those are out in the backyard. Along with a couple of mid 80’s Camaro shells (No motors).

Nice design. But the problem with GM and American autos in particular (no doubt, I drive one) is that they always get cheesy on the materials. Come now guys… step up to the plate! Make us proud!!!

BRING IT LIKE WE KNOW YOU CAN (but don’t WANT to afford)! ;)

That’s sweet, but it should come to market sooner. 2008 or 2009 is too far away. The Mustang would have sold so much by then. Still this car looks really sweet, and I cant wait to see them on the road. I just wish I knew the price and engines.

I hope Dodge offers a droptop Challenger too.

its a nice car but i think that by 2010 or another four years it will have fallen far behind what will be offered. It would make a very competitive car for now but in the four years its gonna take to make it available what new changes will the new mustang and others be ready for? to me it seems like anouncing plans and future cars 4 to 5 years in advance, GM is just going to be playing a perpetual game of catch up with it self and the market. I dont see the camaro as being profitable at all like that last generation of camaros because the market is going and in 4 years it will no longer be “the new thing” it will be backbenched in the minds of the consumer because it really will be a 5 year old brand new car.

thats my two bits!
