GM needs to stop over hyping their production, thats their downfall. This car wont be out for at least two years and already we know exactly what it will look like. Don’t get me wrong I like the car but by the time it is manufactured people will be sick of it and already of settled on something else. Overhype hurt the G6 and REALY hurt the Solstice IMO.

The Camaro is closer to production than most of you think. Here is some bits of info for you guys to chew on.

Oshawa I is doing testing on the Zeta GMX511 and GMX521. I original thought the Zeta platform GMX511 is the Chevy Impala 2010 and GMX521 is Chevy Monte Carlo. Here is were it gets interesting, the GMX511 is a convertible and the GMX521 is a coupe. The GMX551 Chevy Sedan.

Oshawa I is doing load testing on the GMX511 and Hatch testing on the gmx521

EVeryone who thinks this pony car market is dry is mistaken. The majority of potential Camaro buyers wont even consider a Mustang knowing that this is coming out. Some people are oblivious to imports and are still worried about Chevy VS. Ford. Ahhh the good old days.

There’s no way they could have gotten it out by ‘07 without cutting corners. On a car like this, no corners should be cut.

But corners will be cut. This is General Motors we are talking about. BTW, a buddy of mine’s 1 year old HHR just burned to the ground outside of my workplace. Cause is still unknown, but it was smoking like a bastard when he fired it up and sure as ****, it caught fire.

Wonder if I should show him the new Camaro? Think he’d be interested in another Chevy?

GM is good at building desirable niche vehcles/concepts (Camaro, Solstice) it just needs to build a desirable bread and butter vehicle. As nice as the new concept is, the days of selling 100,000 Camaros a year are over.

In regards to post #7 while the Mustang’s live axle was done to keep costs down Ford actually listened to their customers and those that drag race wanted ease of interchangabilty and reliablity. For a live axle it’s a very sophisticated tri-link set up that handles much better than any previous car. And no I don’t own one nor do I drag race.

I agree with some of what #4 was saying. I’ve been saying all along that I was sick of the overhyping of the new Camaro. When the thing finally comes out its gonna seem old already. Also, let’s be honest….we’re dealing with GM here, they’ll find a way to ruin it by the time it goes into production. I can’t wait until the cobolt knobs and switches find it’s way into the car. GM will be dead in under 10 years and it serves them right!

I love the way this car looks but i will have to drive one and see how much “value Engineering” has been done before i bought one. Given GM’s history i’m not hopeful. Ford ruined the new Mustang with that cheap rear end set-up.

And honestly, I’m not a huge Camaro fan but this car looks really good. Hopefully the drivetrain lives up to the looks. Like #4 said, maybe GM is getting it together.

Talk about over-hyping a product. This thing won’t come out for YEARS while the Mustang sucks up all of the “retro baby-boomer” sales. What’s really funny is all the talk about this drop-top. I mean, is it really hard to imagine the car as a convertible? Just take the roof off and woo-lah!! Have some freakin’ imagination.

Although I must say it’s a good design, futuristic while still paying homage to the muscle-cars of the past, I’m already sick of the buzz around this car. Again, it’s not like they were planning to bring out the Camaro next fall and are just now showing close-to-production samples to get people excited. And why promote muscle-cars when we’re at the beginning of a very serious gas crunch?
