I’m a member of the Association of British Drivers. American drivers should visit our site, it will give you guys a possible vision of the future. Here in the UK we have a forest of speed cameras, including the hideous SPECS average speed camera which force the driver to spend an insanely unsafe amount of time to look at the speedo and not on traffic observation. The Scottsdale cameras are equivalent to our Truvelo system and works by under road induction loops (yours) or piezo electric cables (ours). Our cameras are digital with on-board modems, so it never runs out of film, surveillance & fines is a big industry in UK, Orwell’s 1984 is now here – a few years late. Spying Big Gov is spreading throughout Europe, we will be charged by the mile on road tolls by satellite from 2014 courtesy of Galileo and GeneSYS and it will have speed enforcement built-in. GeneSYS is being project managed by US firm Fluor Inc. Speed cameras in UK have caused accidents, but Govt spin deflects the issue. Unfortunately, I get the feeling you guys are going to get the same treatment. Watch out for the pseudo-science safety experts – aka the ban it all brigade. You have been warned.

I live in Scottdale. This is the dumbest thing the city has ever done. Like a friend of mine said today, “I can’t wait for the first person to sue the city when the cameras cause and accident.”

This is revenue driven. The profits will be $5,000,000 per month at 1000 tickets per day. Remove your front license plate, challenge every ticket and clog the courts.

Speed cameras (and red light cameras) are ridiculous. The police should be about increasing public safety, not increasing their bankroll. That’s what taxes are for.

Unlike England, where gun ownership is almost non-existant and speed cameras are rampant, I hope Americans will recognize this travesty to our freedom and find a high powered rifle, perhaps one of those custom .50 caliber bolt action jobs and shut down the speed camera good and proper.

I actually think it may increase accidents. I imagine people remembering where the cameras are placed, and slow way down to avoid the camera, then speed up once they are passed the camera. I think drivers are usally safe, as long as people are consistent. By adding a “speed-bump” (aka-cameras), I believe you create more trouble.

They don’t care if it reduces accidents, just think of the revenue they’re going to generate. It’s a sham.
