Every now and again Canadians are lucky enough to test out products before automakers take them to the U.S. or global markets. This time, Canada will gain access to an exclusive “accessory package” that thoroughly upgrades Kia ’s hot new Koup SX.
According to a post on ForteForums, Kia ’s Canadian dealer network will begin taking pre-orders on a slew of new cosmetic and performance parts to be retrofitted on Kia Koup SX models, earning them the upgrade in title to Koup SX-R. Kia will also make a factory built SX-R trim level for prospective owners, avoiding the hassle of adding the parts later.
According to Canadian Kia service bulletin AY10 007, the package will start with a new front chin spoiler, matching side skirts and rear lip spoiler. To justify the new “R” badging, an AEM Performance drop-in air filter and a performance-tuned axle-back exhaust system will be thrown into the mix.
To help handle the added power and to properly showcase the new cosmetic upgrades, Kia also included Eibach Pro lowering springs that are good for a full 1.3-inches of drop, as well as a front upper strut brace for reduced body roll. To fill the newly reduced wheel wells will be a set of 18-inch Fast wheels by Europa, wrapped in Yokohama’s new S.drive performance tires, which Leftlane reviewed a few months ago.
For those who don’t already own a Kia Koup SX, you will also be able to order a Koup SX-R from the dealers (in Canada) in Titanium silver, Racing Red and Black. Pricing has not yet been released, but pre-orders are being taken now, with product expected to arrive in May.
