In an interesting move for fuel economy-conscious shoppers, used car mega retailer Carmax recently launched an inventory search feature on its website that allows shoppers to sort available vehicles by their fuel economy.
The search engine will either sort cars by highest city or highway fuel economy. Obviously, sorting will favor the Toyota Prius, but a brief search of cars over 40 highway miles per gallon revealed several available Prius, Civic Hybrid and VW TDI vehicles.
Given the simplicity of such as system, we wouldn’t be surprised to see other used car search engines introducing similar sorting in the future.

I think you should be allowed to search by ugly, then most Chrysler products would finally be at the top of a list.

Wow. Finally! Thank you Carmax. Now I can shop the used, worn out ex-rental cars by MPG! And STILL not be able to negotiate on price, just like when I buy a toaster. Groundbreaking, indeed.

Carmax sucks anyway. Police auctions are way cooler.

Funny… Toyota has the most vehicles listed in the lowest category for miles per gallon, and the most vehicles listed in the highest category for miles per gallon… surprise surprise.
