Thanks to a speedy exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Chrysler’s residual values have rebounded faster than expected. Chrysler’s resale values dipped 6 percent after the Michigan automaker filed for bankruptcy in May, but the company’s residuals have since rebounded by as much as 5 percent.

Moving ahead with its range-extending electric vehicle plans, Fisker has signed Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. to a $10.2 million contract. Per the terms of the contract, Quantum will supply Fisker with its Q-Drive system and will also help the California automaker with future drivetrain development.

More than 3,100 General Motors and Chrysler dealers could be in line for a new lease on life as a House bill to overturn dealer closing passed a House committee vote last night. The bill, part of larger spending bill, will move to the House floor next Wednesday.

There are plenty of vehicles on the market capable of comfortably hauling five humans and a load of cargo all while towing a Prius, but until General Motors launched its second-generation hybrid pickups, like the GMC Sierra Hybrid, no offering could boast midsize sedan in-town fuel economy with the Prius and trailer unhitched.

Finally joining the hybrid party, Hyundai launched its first hybrid vehicle today in its domestic market of South Korea. Dubbed the Elantra LPI, Hyundai’s first hybrid uses liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and a set of lithium-ion polymer batteries.

Subaru’s 2010 Legacy isn’t on sale in North America just yet, but the thoroughly revised all-wheel-drive sedan and wagon is already finding its way into garages in its home market of Japan. Subaru says it sold 7,018 2010 Legacys between the car’s May 20 on sale date and June 21 – more than double the 3,000 the automaker had anticipated selling.

The current economic meltdown has resulted in the dramatic drop off of new car sales, but at least one automaker has managed to find a silver lining. Nissan says the timing for the market collapse couldn’t have come at a better time, with the company’s green initiative lining up perfectly with government stimulus packages.

General Motors’ June 1st Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing was likely behind the automaker’s sharp drop off in June sales, but some global markets appear to be well insulated from the Detroit automaker’s precarious financial position.

The Genesis Coupe current holds the position of Hyundai’s sporty offering, but a second sports coupe will join the automaker’s lineup by 2011. The new coupe will fill the void left by the departure of the Hyundai Tiburon and will be heavily influenced by the company’s Veloster concept.

Tesla hopes to tap into the world’s right-hand-drive markets, namely the United Kingdom, India, Japan and Australia, by offering its electric Roadster with the steering wheel on the right-hand side. Though Tesla has already announced that it plans to open a dealership in London, offering a model tailored to the market will undoubtedly help sales.
