Leno, Clooney, Brosnan, other celebs on Lotus Evora waiting list

12/01/2008, 12:16 PM

By Drew Johnson

Lotus arguably reached the pinnacle of its Hollywood fame after the company’s Esprit landed a role in the 1990 film “Pretty Woman”, but it appears as though the British automaker is making a comeback with the Tinsel Town elite.

Lotus has offered two models in the U.S. for several years now – the Elise and Exige – but the two-seat sports cars never really struck a chord in Hollywood. While both models are extremely good cars, their difficult ingress/egress and bare-bones interiors don’t exactly make them the ideal cars for a red carpet entrance.

However, now that Lotus has launched the Evora – a 2+2 coupe that offers more room and luxury amenities than either of Lotus’ current offerings – celebrities from around the world have signed up to take delivery of the new model. Some of the names on the wait list include Jay Leno, Pierce Brosnan, Beyoncé, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, Dave Grohl, Richard Hammond and James May.

Although the Evora will be a friendlier daily driver than the Elise or Exige, it hasn’t lost its track day roots. Thanks to an aluminum frame and a Toyota-sourced 276 horsepower 3.5L V6, the Evora should be just at home on a winding road course as it is on Hollywood Boulevard.

Wow! Capt
I’m sure all of Hollywood is broken hearted after reading your comments.

I do agree with you in the way LLN phrased this article the only right response is a big “Who Cares!”

Couldn’t care if “Holly Wood” read what I posted. “Holly Wood” thinks that it’s they’re civic duty to do peoples thinking for them and they are way too many idiots that are happy to go along with everything their master commands them to do. That explains our next president. You probably one of them.

Politics how nice, that and a well reasoned argument, vaptain you out do yourself and your stereotype. I do my own thinking thanks and have been a fan of Lotus since I was a kid, they were dominating F1 and Colin Chapman was in charge. As for you president he’s not mine, but compared to the idiot who is leaving anything is an improvement. I hate see a drunk in charge of the H-bomb.

As an automobile enthusiast I do not mind seeing some of the names: James May, Richard Hammond, and James Bond’s Pierce Brosnan. All these names are fitting owners for the Lotus brand. I too love the new Evora. As a supposed four-seater I believe the Evora is a joke, but there is always something about having the spare space behind the front seats, if not simply to add more seat reclining room.

Daniel Craig refused an offer on free Aston Martin from the company complaining that parking in London is a bitch. Yet, he placed an order on Lotus Evora. The morals of the story: free Aston is less desirable then Evora for which one has to pay. He still needs to pay for parking in very same London.

Lariat, that’s a good one. Richard Hammond will certainly fit in it.
I heard this Lotus is supposed to be much more comfortable than the Elise, Exige, etc., but if I ever have around $60k to buy a car, I think I’ll get something like the ‘09 CTS-V, Mercedes AMG, BMW M3, M5 or M6 instead of this. Anyway, most of those have four full seats (and doors).

Me Likey. I think the Hollywood thing only reinforces the fact that this thing is stylish; it reinforces the fact that Lotus is a legit manufactuer once again, not just a track-day special. I admire CAPTAIN’S independence of mind, but I have to be honest: I wish I were as cool as Brosnan and Clooney : (

You get a parking permit for London about 100 quid a year, anyway it’s not the paying for parking that hard it’s the finding a spot. Not convinced Hamster would see over the wheel of the Evora, the seat are quite low.

Any one think this looks better than the M250?

By the way Z51 who’s Oprah? I would love to dye my hair blond but I haven’t got enough left. Have you ever meet a bleached blond middle class woman, seems a bit of an oxymoron. Are you sure you know what a bleached blond is Z51 or is it just your fantasy talking?

Clarkson LOVES Lotus. Do a youtube search and watch some video of him in the Exige or Elise (Yes he fits).

Hamster is Hammond I guess it is a reference to his being vertically challegened.

Mind you I am surprised Clarkson fit into an Exige, it must be a snug fit.
