Chery produces 1 millionth car

08/22/2007, 3:49 PM

By Drew Johnson

China’s largest automaker, Chery, produced its 1 millionth car today, making it the first Chinese automaker to hit the milestone. The car that pushed Chery’s total production to a seventh digit was its A3, a four-door hatchback that debuted at last years Beijing Auto Show.

It took Chery six years to produce the first half-million cars and only 18 months to build the final 500,000, thanks to growth within, and outside of, its native market. Chery has also recent entered into partnerships with Chrysler and Fiat.

A few years ago a friend of mine was involved in a traffic accident in Beijing. It was so bad that his leg was crushed on several locations. It took them 2 hours to get him out of the car and when they got the hospital, they left him for 4 hours without doing anything. If you consider how unsafe their cars are, you’d probably wish you’re dead instead of having to put up with their doctors.

I was in Beijing 3 years ago. My friend said let’s try that glass and wood box on a moped against my wishes.

Well, the driver went through a red light and remember thinking “this is how I’m gonna die” All these red Citroen taxis slamming on their brakes and I was yelling at the stupid peasant driving. He insisted he had a green light.

In a regular cab I sat in, there was a steel bolt sticking out of the back of the front seat. Of course, I banged my knee on it… and I let driver have an earful of American curses.

Should I even mention highway ramps with shear drop-offs and no gaurd-rails or holes in the streets and sidewalks with rebar sticking up?

I could gone and on about all the dangers I encountered in China!!! Things that would make your eyes pop out in amazement.

Yeah… if you are ever in China… be CAREFUL!!!

Mitch: So China is as unsafe as what it produces. EEEnteresting.
55amg: Ouch!
Chery: I’ve got a new ad slogan for it.
“From the country that brought you the Chinese finger trap, introducing the Chinese Death Trap: Chery”
1 million sold already!

Aside from the dog thing (we fight them instead) this describes the USA not to long ago. Their economy is still developing and it will change. It will mature faster than the US’s did simply because the US showed the way.
