What a dull, boring, lifeless, so-what, I could not care less copy of a vehicle.
No - I'm not drinking china.
I mean it.
So, there.

Perhaps Chery will get the hang of building cars around the time you get a hang of English.

Agree with Driven. Sure there will be Chinese cars in the U.S. in the future, just not anytime soon.

Actually, Okano, if you know the Japanese culture, they are incredibly dedicated to their product development. They are good at improving their cars, or even technology used in rivals product.

Koreans "dislikes" Japanese on the national level, and they are very patriotic. So naturally, they don't want to be #2 in everything. Both countries industrialized much earlier than communist China. It was a matter of time before the Koreans would learn enough about making cars to catch up with their neighbors. First Hyundai was the Excel in the mid-80s (MUCH older than what you claimed "8 years ago") and even Toyota was trying to establish themselves here. 8 years ago would be 1999, and Korean cars have improved, good enough for Ford to source two generations to rebadge as the Fiesta and Aspire. So acutally I was not a doubter 8 years ago. If you are talking about 20 years, maybe, and I am sure you were too if you were born already.

Chinese, on the other hand, has huge problem with quality control. If you have been to China, you will know copyright privacy, scams, fakes, etc are out of control there. Right now, people will do everything to make a buck and "get-rich-fast!" They don't care about product liability, food safety, quality control either, let alone having the mind set to compete with the meticulous Japanese and Korean car companies outside of China. So I doubt they will make the safety cut here anytime soon.

On a side note, America is now seeing problem in Chinese manufactured goods. That is not news to people in Asia, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. You think poison toothpaste and lead based paint is bad, have you heard of fake egg? They look like egg, taste like egg, but they are anything but egg, and they don't care if you eat it and die either.

Actually I complain Korean cars are crap today. But that is only based on personal observation of kids I know with Kias and Hyundais that are constantly in the shop. Who cares if they have 10 year warranties when they are driving a rental most of the time - at their expense. My kids will never drive one for that reason.

But that is neither here nor there since this is an article about a Chinese manufacturer. One that cant pass less stringent safety tests to get into markets like India so seeing one in the US will take some time.

LP640, yes the car will appeal more to an effeminate crowd. That doesnt mean its a bad design by Pinifarina. There are many cars that are bought more often by women but do very well overall. Miata, RAV4, Jetta, Rabbit, Beetle, Solstice, Eclipse are cars that are more often purchased/driven by women. There is a market for these cars.

What's scary is if it passes the US crash test with acceptable rating. Then all the other brands need to brace for a shift in the auto market.

It is definitely knock off of Solara. But it will come here with Louis Vuitton label, because it's more prestigious moniker.

The one thing the Chinese got right is the use of outside designers like Pininfarina - most known for Ferrari designs.

The bad part is the poor engineering. It leads to a crumple zone that consists of the entire car which makes them unsafe (read: deadly).

I bet the paint will look amazing, resist chips and last forever because it will be hard lead based paint not conforming to any environmental standards. Most cars today have paint problems like orange peel because the stringent environmental standards force the process and paints to be sacrificed for environmental safety. But not in China.

I agree guys -- there is alot of G6 in it. The back is almost 100% G6 and the front is lifted from the Eclipse. The stance was lifted from the Solara. It's just a mix and match, and cheap, and crash (and die).

Looks like a Solara that went through the dryer on "hot." I do like the well-engineered windshield pillars that will conveniently collapse on top of you iin a rollover accident to keep your remains from littering the highway. How thoughtful.

I bet that car will bend down the middle if a 150 pound person sits in it. So, would that be a Chrysler or something? That is NOT coming to the US, and even in the 1/100000 chance it does, if people have any brains in their heads, they will not buy. But then again, there are a lot of idiots out there.

This design looks okay. Almost like a Pontiac Sunfire but with more style. I don't see Cherry reaching the US until 2009/2010. They cant pass less stringent crash tests for other countries. I doubt they will ever get passed the US tests, especially with a convertible.

Chery convertible vs. paper bag. Who's gonna win?

It definitely looks like a G6 ripoff, with a little Solara mixed it dimensionally.
