Following three teaser sketches, General Motors has released the first official image of the 2010 Chevrolet Agile. The 2010 Agile will first hit the Brazilian market this October, but will eventually spread to other global markets — potentially even the United States.

Tipped to be a possible replacement for the Aveo in North America, a previous GM release indicated that the two cars might actually be sold together in South America. The Agile, naturally, would occupy a more premium pricing position than the Aveo.

Based on GM’s new Gamma II architecture, which underpins the latest Opel Corsa and even the Fiat Grande Punto, the Agile will be sized like Ford ’s upcoming Fiesta. Powered by a pair of low-displacement four-cylinders, likely to include a 1.6-liter turbo, the Agile will offer much more performance than the outgoing Aveo.

GM hasn’t confirmed just what small car will be built in Michigan – the Agile or its smaller, GM Daewoo-designed Chevrolet Spark cousin. The Agile seems more in line with North American tastes given its larger powertrains, but GM did show a pre-production Spark at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year.
