NMOFGM… I know you are huffing tailpipe fumes man, but come on. I don’t know ANY car that will run that many miles without some kind of problem. Admittedly GM quality is darn good… if the general public would just get the idea that the imports are so much better out of their heads everything would be ok. My Beretta has 128,xxx on it and still fires up every morning to get me to work… but that’s not the point.

The thing that has been, and still is, missing from the majority of GM’s lineup is personality… sparkle… that little bit of extra something that makes the customer actually WANT to buy a GM instead of going to the import dealer down the street. Most of GM’s offerings are bland and generic… obviously built solely to compete with import offerings because they don’t stand out on their own. Corvette, Silverado, and Tahoe have seemed to be the exception to this… and they were GM’s cash cows until the real estate bubble burst and petrol prices hit the stratosphere.

Now GM is left with little to nothing… and is trying to tantalize us with visions of better things on the horizon (Camaro & Volt). Maybe they should get in touch with Pres. Obama… he was able to sweep the nation with a platform of hopes and dreams… that’s what they’re gonna need to survive.

THis will be the hottest car in its class when it arrives.

Great looks, great performance, better quality than any import, legendary GM reliability and dependibility, American nameplate, etc. It is yet another winner for the Chevy/GM portfolio. This car will put the Corolla and Civic and Mazda3 in the grave. Everyone would rather drive a GM vehicle than a POS import that will just break down on you all the time. Like all other GM vehicles this one will be built to last. 400 even 500 thousand miles with narry a hiccup.

Dangerous 1, the Cruze is not an updated Cobalt. It is a brand new car on a brand new platform. It has actually very little in common with the Cobalt.

jayc… yes teh Forenza/Lacetti is leaving the US market. Thats good, because only the former soviets are buying that stuff up because to them they are good cars (compared to what the russians are welding together). But for the US the Cruize will replace the Cobalt which is quite a rubbish car.

Why is the United States getting this last? This was hyped up as a Chevrolet, right?

This isn’t a replacement for the Cobalt, I’ve said that time and time again. Really, this is a replacement for the pitiful car known as the Suzuki Forenza in the states, and known as the Daewoo Lacetti elsewhere.

Yet another dumbfvck move by GM to delay introducing this car in the states. You could drop the 2.4L VVT Ecotec out of the current Cobalt Sport into it and have a fine vehicle that has enough power to get around and still gets exceptional fuel mileage. Yet people still wonder why this company is headed for the graveyard.

The only Chevy I could see in Europe where those in rental garages. I don’t believe they own any part of West European or even Central European market. They are worthy only of former communist states. They should compare positively against Lada (original ’64 FIAT 124 model).

If General Motors are pinning their future on this car and the Volt, then I’m afraid they’re goners. They’re “okay” cars, but the Volt and Cruze won’t stir up long term excitement that will make people run to the showrooms. The Cobalt was supposed to do that, but didn’t and the Cruze is an updated Cobalt (which was an updated Cavalier).

Too bad, I hate to see an American institution like GM go away.

I think Chevy is a low end brand in the UK. It’s wierd seeing a Chevy there, usually it’s all Vauxhalls. Pricing is really good when you factor in the exchange rate and the fact all cars cost more in the UK and it’s a pretty large sedan for them, it maybe a big seller.
