The “need more oil for GM” guy states we should be more patriotic. I am a little confused as this car is Korean and GM is American. Putting a Chevy badge on it doesn’t make it American. It still has the suspension of the last model (Daewoo Kalos), with the dash from the sedan. It’s still based on 3 decade old suspension components. It’s design is a mish-mash. Poor GM.

It is good looking for a car in its category. I am confident GM outsourced design to one of the italian design houses (dead serious), Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign studio.

I do like the Rio5 in this category, and with the discounts… an Aveo can be had in the $10k-range… that’s rock-bottom pricing. The Mazda3 for $15k offers gobs more space and content… plus great looks and the stereo controls on the steering wheel.

Still, GO GM for making a nice interior… although only a dude on drugs would compare it to an Audi interior.

There’s no reason why a car this size can’t get 50-60 mpg on the highway. A 1987 Buick Park Avenue got over 30 on the highway. GM needs to go back and sharpen their pencils.

i think the grille on the front is WAY to big. i like GM’s, or rather Chevy’s, new front ends but on this is just stupid ugly. slim it down a bit and then it’ll look fine. i do however like it better than the “old” aveo.

I would be interested in an Aveo with the 1.4L Turbo, a 6-speed, and 16-inch rims. But the current vehicle is too slow to get out of its own way. I like what GM did with the front end… more agressive is good… but the back end still looks like it was just lopped off.

The Aveo is a great car that only an unpatriotic A-hole would dismiss as a class competitor, if not a class leader. Reliability, quality and class average fuel economy along with great looks and none of the cheapness found in those imports, should maintain the Aveo as a strong seller until the new one comes.

Buy American, buy GM

If i was shopping for a car in this class i’d go for an Accent 3 door SE or a Kia Rio 5 SX. much better looking than the Aveo among other things…

The car is what it is, but give the “Chief Aveo5 Color Naming Person” credit for at least trying to inject some visual excitement into an otherwise fairly bland driving experience. Drive by most Toyonda lots and you have to blink twice to make sure you’re not colorblind.

You’re right. The 3 is a class above the Aveo. But as I said, a modestly optioned Mazda3 can easily be found for under $15,000, which inevitably should put it on consumers’ lists.

Surprisingly the new honda fit gets worse gas mileage than the old one and is a combined 29mpg with a manual while the aveo is 30 mpg combined.
