Chevrolet Camaro Convertible concept

(Photo Update: 8 new images) GM is trying to keep the buzz around its retro-futuristic 2009 Chevy Camaro alive with the debut of the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible concept. The company showcased the new concept at the 2007 Detroit auto show. A production version is expected for the 2010 model year, though it could arrive alongside the 2009 Camaro coupe.

As a self-professed GM hater, it’s hard to say, but this is fantastic!! I would have liked to see a more production-ready interior, because I think all can agree, the exterior is a home-run. If GM is serious about fixing their interior issues, (and they seem to be on the right track with the Enclave, Malibu, and Sky) then this could have been a great opportunity to showcase the future of GM interior design.
Minor complaint aside, Job well done GM, job well done.

The car is awesome. The wait & the hype sucks. So does the fact that they’re going to have to redesign a bunch of things for the production version. Like someone said before, that is where I’ll lose most of my interest in it.

Mustangs and Camaros have aquited themselves pretty well at the race track, not just the drag strip. The current Mustang is enjoying reasonable success in road racing. There is no reason to believe that the Camaro will not be a capable road racer as well. The competition will be good and a pony car war between Ford and Chevy only bodes well for the consumer.

The American car industry has seen better days (and will see them again I wager) but they know how to build these types of cars, and they are ingrained in the car culture of this country. I would venture to guess that if any of you teenagers that frequent here have kids in the future, they will be ‘jonesing’ for one of these cars just like a lot of guys in their 40’s are now.

GM will get this car into production as soon as they can, the reason it will take so long is because the platform it will be on is brand new and will be built in Oshawa, Ontario. Currently Oshawa is building W-bodies such as Impala and Grand Prix, which will also be on the new “Zeta” RWD platform.

IMO, they should have shown the concept this year, closer to the actual release. But honestly, nobody will get sick of this car so get over it.

And keep in mind everyone, you can’t complain incessantly about so-called poor GM quality and then complain about not having a production model in less than a year’s time. So weight is irrelevant here, especially when you have the ponies to drive it faster than most roads will let you. Why would I want to drive some light Japanese 4 or 6 banger that I have rev the snot out of, and excell the speed limit just to achieve this when I can drive something heavy like this and looks cool to boot and plus break the ass end loose just by stepping on the gas. Cerebus will most likely stop development on these low volume “toys” and concentrate on the core vehicles that are essential to Chryslers survival, if there even will be one. The Camaro will own the segment, there will be no competition as by that time, Ford will be long gone as well.

And Chip Foose putting his name on the Camaro is like Daffy duck putting his name on a cereal box. It’ll have no impact on the success of the Camaro. People are already lined up out the door just to get their names on the list.

I am so tired of hearing about the camaro. When are the finally gonna start production? I still say its gonna be cancelled early 2008 though.

I have to agree with homeboy234. :-)

The original Solstice Concept was a coupe (which was never produced) and later became a convertible (which was green-lighted about a year or so after being showed) and some small interior and exterior changes happened. Not a lot of changes but some changes to make it into production.

My thought on the Camaro is of course the exterior will remain the same with few changes (mostly for Cost) the interior taking most of the hits. Remember the interior has a lot of crazy parts that most likely won’t make it into production.

lots of hope here for the camaro but I just do not see it…I am probably wrong but I think it will still feel and ride crappy just like the rest of the GM cars, no matter how good it looks on the outside.

Nope, same old tired concept…

I think an I_ROC would be appropriate to further changes on the muscle car and add a little excitement. By the way, not to dis, but what about the TA? Have you guys heard anything about restyling it?
