2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible [Spied]

01/15/2009, 4:22 PM

By Drew Johnson

The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible may be delayed by a two years — making it a 2011 model year car instead of 2010 like its fixed-roof counterpart — but development of the drop top is ongoing. Our spy photographers managed to catch up with the Camaro Convertible earlier this week in Australia.

The most recent spy shots prove that the open air version of the Camaro won’t stray far from the coupe’s styling. The odd looking headlights seen on past prototypes have been replaced with more conventional units, as seen on the production Camaro coupe.

Out back, it looks like even the base car will get dual exhaust — something V6 Mustangs and Challengers do without. Of course, the government mandated reflectors/signals are also present.

Overall, we quite like the look of the Camaro Convertible. The retractable canvas top seems to emphasize the car’s raised rear haunches, and we can’t wait to see what it looks like with the top down.

Production of the Camaro Convertible was originally scheduled for December 2009, but General Motors’ financial woes have pushed that date back to February 2011 — giving you plenty of time to fill up your piggy bank.

It is not a bad car. Does it worth my tax dollars?I don’t think so, since I am not getting one for free.

So if the car’s being tested in Australia does this mean the tax dollars go down the drain counter-clockwise?

You can bring all your 2012 converible camaros to AU, but you can’t import one Sport Truck to the US!

This is a very, very nice looking vehicle. This “should” sell well, and would without question had the economy not tanked. I agree, this is much better than the warmed over Mustang.

Why is it in Australia?

I’m glad GM is re-introducing the Camaro. It brings some excitement to a dull Chevrolet lineup.

The car tested in Australia because it would make a stink with politicos home: that’s what 4 bn are used for? They want Volt or electric golf cart.

By the time this thing is out, “Transformers 4: Battle of the No Spark” will be in theaters starring Bumblebee as a Chevy Citation and Optimus Prime takes form of a Isuzu Hombre with a flaming paint job.

Camaro will be the hottest car in the world when it is released. The hybrid hype is going to disappear completely. The Mustang is still a pile of sh1t

I can’t believe it’s coming out in 2011. I’ve been holding out for a helluva long time. I’ll probably just get a coupe. Now if I do in fact get a vert, that 3rd brake light has got to go (I will integrate it into the spoiler). And I will hide that antenna if it’s the last thing I do.

isnt it weird how GM is claiming to become the biggest producer of hybrid cars within the next 4 years, now our enlightened oil-guzzler here is telling us, hybrid is going to be moot rather sooner than later… seems GM is betting the loaned money from the US taxpayer on the wrong horses then… or could it be the guy who ran low on oil has no clue…
