If they decide to make this car they better not call it a Camaro. It's looks nothing like a Camaro. How could they have two cars that look totally different have the same name? I don't think they should produce this car at all. Keep it as the G8 and that's it. They don't even know if the G8 is going sell well yet and they're already thinking of a Chevrolet version. But GM will be GM and do what they have always done. Use the same car for every brand they own and change the name. I want to see what the Saturn, Buick, Cadillac and Saab versions are going to look like.

That's the BEST "rated" mileage... The Mazda RX8 is only rated @ 14city and 22 highway, but most owners report getting 18-20mpgs on average in the city... The Cobalt SS Supercharged is rated only @19city and like mid to high 20's on the highway, yet I consistently get 25+ in the city (if I drive conservatively) and over 30mpg on the freeway...

So RaineMan is hardly stretching the truth...

Now is a 700lbs heavier LNF powered Camaro going to get that kind of mileage? Definitely not...

" But 35MPG out of the SS is hard to beat."

You are stretching holy hell out of the truth here. A simple google search shows that the BEST rated mileage for that motor, in stock form, is 30 mpg highway; the R&T review of the car rated it 22/29. The LS is rated at 24/33.

Tbe best these guys could get out of it was 24mpg average:

I think Camaro is aiming at 21-23K. Mustang in 19-21K bracket. Chevy was always a notch pricier. I wish it lost some heft, however.

Now on to a related subject... exactly how low would a 4-cyl Camaro be priced? 21-22k is sitting right at the heart of Cobalt SS territory. Same engine... it becomes a FWD vs RWD battle... and most enthusiasts will overlook the weight difference for the RWD advantage.

It makes me wonder if the V6 version is going to be a little more expensive than planned... like 25k base. That would put it out of range of a base model mustang.

No offense taken, guys on school rally team were practicing for years on, I had to study, work and attend ROTC camps. It sucked being poor and have ambitions. Their Saabs were prepped by factory and were extremely nice to drive on the course. Also, they could pull through mud, where I had to pray not be tossed off the road.

FWD doesn't suck b/c of manouverability... FWD sucks b/c you can't launch worth shyte in a FWD performance car. If my SS was RWD I could probably knock several tenths off of the quarter mile time. As it is I have to be very careful around town b/c any use of boost in 1st gear will result in massive wheel-hop. Now on the manouverability subject... the Cobalt SS really blows. I can't u-turn without taking up atleast two lanes... and Charlotte is the u-turn capital of the south. If I want to u-turn I must take a left at the intersection, then find a parking lot to turn around in and come back out.
Also... no offense meant to your driving skills... but a properly modded RWD Corolla (AE-86?) should be able to whoop on most anything out there.

Now, man, can you explain to me why everyone is whining about RWD? I was rallying during college days (almost 30 years ago) in RWD Corolla against Saabs and they were whooping my ass being FWD. And with a little attention to detail even FWD car can have as tight turning radius as RWD (maneuverability)

I hear what you're sayin Xyunya... and I know what you mean. The V6 'stang I drove had the pony package with the bigger rims, better tires, and GT suspension... coupled with the 5-speed manual it felt pretty good, especially compared to my Ranger. But the Cobalt still blew it away in terms of handling.

RaineMan, I don't expect anyone to race Accord against V6 Mustang. And honestly, I did not test drive V8 powered one yet. But V6 Mustang did not feel all that sporty or enthusiastic, yet Accord with manual felt like a sport car (and with slushbox it wasn't far behind). No objective science or tests here, except the feel in the buttocks.

I don't get it. The Camaro has been all over the net for years why disguise it as a Holden Coupe that hasn't been introduced to the market but was shown as a concept earlier this year. If its a new engine for the Camaro who would notice it in a Camaro body.

Xyunya, the 4.0 isn't a bad motor... and I'll guarantee you a V6 'stang is faster than a 4-banger Accord. Remember, horsepower sells cars... but torque wins races. That is what the 4.0 is good for... lots of down low torque.
I do hope that Ford will replace it with something slightly more fuel efficient soon though. I had a 2001 Ranger with the 4.0... got terrible mileage. When I traded it in 2006 I passed on the V6 'stang and went for the Cobalt SS instead primarily b/c of fuel mileage. There are days when I think I would have liked the Mustang better... primarily b/c of the RWD. But 35MPG out of the SS is hard to beat.

RaineMan, 210 hp 4.0L V6 motor is very wrong today. Accord has 190 hp 4 cylinder on a slightly lighter car, guess which one feels "sportier"? Even with RWD Mustang does not feel light on its feet or very maneuverable with that anemic mill.

There's nothing wrong with Mustang. It just needs a slightly new front end treatment and some new tail lights... the "retro" look was okay for a bit... but those round lights look dated really fast.

The Mustang still sells well though, unlike other niche retro cars like the New Beetle and PT Barnum Cruiser clown car.

I mean its still gonna be a cash cow for GM. but it wont last long untill its gonna be old without a makeover. Look what happened to the mustang. When it was unvailed it was a big thing, and now when u see it nobody cares.

Chris, I wouldn't say it's at all "common", but you are right it is done. In this case if they are doing durability testing to 100k miles on say, a motor or trans or brake system, and they are 50% complete when the BIW is ready, they will continue on with the mule for sure. But, they will also start a new test with the actual vehicle. Seeing that the BIW was done nearly 2yrs ago, I don't see them using an old mule for a "new" test. (and I'm assuming the turbo 4 is a "new" idea, perhaps incorrectly) Packaging, frontal (grille) area and airflow, etc are critical for powertrain durability testing and more importantly, certification. If they are simply measuring "turbo lag" as LLN states, a mule would do just fine for that, but frankly that can be done on a dyno far less expensively, quickly, and more accurately. But, not ever having worked with Holden on a powertrain project (only brakes), I can't say for sure how they'd do it.

I'm sure it's a diesel though! Somebody has to make the big step and offer coupe's that lack performance! Image it, so economical, you can actually keep it in the garage and not use a single drop of diesel. Now THAT'S environmentally friendly performance!
Of course it reached 5mph, can't you read the yellow "government approved high speed testing vehicle" on the front :p
Think my comment is weird and lacks logic? Well, that's because of the article...

Why not? there will certainly be plenty of room to work with in the engine bay. driving a camaro with turbo lag would seem so wrong though....

The Z28 is officially off the table and Turbo=Forced Induction. .... damn.

Anyone who wonders if a 300hp turbo-4 can move a Camaro, take a stab at what the power output was on an 80's 305 powered Z28. 230hp in top form for the Iroc-Z. The 350 only made 240 at its best.
