Camaro mule spotted in Australia

08/20/2007, 10:58 AM

By Drew Johnson

A picture from a camera phone gives us the first glance of a 2009 Camaro mule being tested in Australia. However, the Camaro is heavily disguised by its modified Holden exterior.

Although the low-resolution shot makes it difficult to see the mule, the Holden actually only has two “real” doors, the rear doors are just part of the camouflage. When compared to the Holden VE Commodore, pictured below, the mule has a shorter wheel base as well as a lower roof-line.

Is it me or does it look almost like the E90 Bodied BMW Coupes out there?

If the rear slanted down, then it would look BMW-ish. The front is entirely Benz/BMW

I understand it’s a test mule and that this is not a 100% representative of the final product. Obviously GM is still working out the design kinks on this car.

I’m still hoping they build it in van Nuys.
No, just kidding. We’ll just have to wait and see. I hope it doesn’t have those small Saturn Ion rear doors.
It’s a Camaro!

If the Camaro should be coming out for 2009, shouldn’t it be further along than this in the prototype stage?? From what I’ve noticed over the years car makers usually test out the new mechanicals with modified existing / older bodies YEARS before introduction. I think the Camaro should already be much further along in the design process than this.

Perhaps it’s just a new Holden Monaro??

It probably is the Camaro, but the problem isn’t the mechanicals or the styling, it’s the size. It’s trying to make sure that it isn’t too wide or way too long, like the concept Camaro and the concept Dodge Challenger, and I doubt they will offer a holden coupe. Probably they will bring back a famous name out of Pontiac’s musclecar era. Maybe the Firebird????

This is a mule, the camaro in Transformers was built by saleen. Go to the gm canadian site and they already have a profile shot of the final thing. Not mention the camaro with look better than the concept, as said by inside sources. Also the body was tweaked so 20s will be present.

Maybe it’s a coupe version of the Commodore? LLN really stretches these mule shots sometimes. Next will be a blurry picture of an old red Fiat 500 tauted as the next Ferrari Dino…

This photo appeared weeks ago, people said it may be the new Holden Monaro but the shorter wheelbase clearly rules that out as all past monaros have been built on the same wheelbase as the Commodore.

MC, you seem bitter. did your civic si get dusted by a stock Camaro even after you gave it a 200-meter lead in the quarter?

Maybe your town is different, but my town. Camaro: cool, fireburd: garish
