Chevrolet officially unveiled the 2010 Camaro SS Indianapolis 500 pace car earlier on Friday. Appropriately, the unveiling took place at the Speedway’s Hall of Fame Museum. The 2010 Camaro SS Indy 500 pace car will make its public debut on December 26th at the Indianapolis Auto Show.
Designed to pay tribute to the 1969 Camaro Indianapolis 500 pace car, the 2010 model is done up in Inferno Orange Metallic paint with White Diamond rally stripes. The original 1969 car was done up in Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes. The 1997 30th anniversary Camaro also carried a similar paint scheme, featuring Arctic White paint with Hugger Orange stripes.

In addition to its unique paint scheme, the 2010 Camaro pace car also features the Indianapolis 500 logo painted on doors and embroidered on driver and passenger headrests, front fender-mounted Indy 500 badges, a new grille insert that will soon be available as a Camaro accessory, amber lens tail lamps, safety lights and all-new GM Accessory floor mats with red and orange accent stitching. The pace car also features a unique leather interior with Inferno Orange accents.

The 2010 Camaro pace car is based on the SS/RS model, packing a 400 horsepower 6.2L V8.

Chevrolet has yet to announce any retail plans for the 2010 Camaro SS Indianapolis pace car, but we suspect replica cars should begin arriving in Chevrolet showrooms just in time for the May race.
