If the Corvette Stingray concept foreshadows the next-generation C7 Corvette, then what might the production car look like? That’s the question our artist has attempted to answer with a speculative illustration of the 2011 version of the iconic sports car.
Given the concept’s massive wheels, exaggerated exterior, and extremely low roofline, there’s almost no way the production C7 Corvette will look exactly like it. However, we don’t think GM has created this concept for no reason at all.
With that in mind, we’ve created a speculative illustration of the production C7 based on the concept. It has small LED headlights that create a similar effect to the hideaway lamps of yore, and the overall styling is a fusion of new and old design cues.
Although details surrounding the C7 project remain scarce, General Motors has confirmed that the C7 Corvette will begin production in April 2012 as a 2013 model. The C7 Corvette will retain its front-engine layout, forgoing a more costly – and complex – mid-engine setup.
One speculated engine option would be a twin-turbo 3.6-liter DOHC V6 capable of 400 horsepower. If the V6 engine does make it into the production C7, you can count on a premium V8 to be available as well for those who like the classic V8 rumble Corvette’s are known for.

Love the Corvette, but don’t like this iteration; the front is just plain wrong. I would also love to see Corvette spin-off from GM so that it can exponentially better its models, survive and thrive.

This is an awesome car, I think it would be a proud iteration of the Corvette. This is being quite optimistic that GM survives though…
LLL#3 – No. GM is Corvette and Vice-versa. It’s the same as saying, “I hope Mustang spins off of Ford” That’s their iconic product and I think it should live and die-if that is to be- with GM. Maybe someone buys the Corvette production line, but by no means should they ever use the name that GM made and perfected.

If this is indeed representative it’s not going to wow anyone in the same manner as a GT-R or an R8. Maybe it’s not supposed to, but I’d be taking this one step further.

i think corvette would be capable of “spinning off”, seeing as they have their own production facility, however i think it would be more likely for chevy to spin off as a whole.

I like it for the most part. The front end could use some work in my opinion. I am not feeling those large ducts on the left and right. Same could be said about the back ducts under the tail lights. The side looks a little busy with all those contour lines. I think if they polish the look they would have a good car.
I have always respected the Corvette and this one should be no different.
For the money, I would still take the M3 or S5 or, if I only needed two seats, an Elise. But thats just me.
Heck by a 370Z for $35k and put $20k of mods into it. That would be one he!! of a car.

call me a pessimist, but I do not like the front or the back. The outer air intakes go higher than they should and should stay level with the inner intake. As for the rear headlights..they make the rear look like the Volts rear- not Corvette material. As for the skirt, I’m lovin the new vent down low. Just my two cents.

i had the opportunity to talk to a GM rep at the Chicago Auto show. after i made the mistake of calling the Stingray Concept a Corvette, she immediately corrected me saying that the concept was just a concept and there is absolutely no plan to put it or any of it’s components into production. thank goodness for that. whereas the concept looks cool as a concept, it would just look weird as a production car. corvettes have followed a visible progression through the years with every new model that has come out. this just seems too random.

Kauf,
Agreed. The one thing that really kills this for me are those side scoops They look wrong on the Aston Martin One-77 (or whatever), they look worse here.
The CORVETTE’s styling has always been Evolutionary rather than Revolutionary. While the rear looks fine, though I’m not approving those tail lights, as does what I can make of the profile, those scoops have got to go or be sorely diminished.

I just hope this isn’t what the C7 will end up looking like…I’d rather see an evolutionary design than a REVOLUTIONARY design. I don’t want to see a mid-engined ‘Vette, either!

Good illustration, but no one really knows what the C7 will look like.
Besides, GM would never have a production car this radical. Corvette would have to be owned by a different owner for something like this to come out.
All the Corvette enthusiasts should band together and by Corvette from GM.

@JakeK66, GM was initially comprised of separate car companies bought-up under the umbrella of General Motors. I, and many others, can easily envision Corvette spun-off as a separate car company absolved of GM. If fact, it would probably be the best thing that ever happened to the Corvette name.

The C7 design needs to be handed to an Italian for inspection, only then will it be enough to move my soul as a new generation Corvette that can drive properly.
This one looks completely wrong, even as an illustration. the design needs to be re-evaluated and improved considerably if it will look anything like this. At this point, I would just agree to let GM go bankrupt then start fresh and new. GM is like a 90-year old man on a life support machine, sooner or later, he will die.

Wow. Well done John. These are nice. (Giving name “John” as a general name for the graphic artist). Your renderings always look really good. I thought I used a lot of layers, dang. Plus your lighting is almost always right on. Mine….not so much.
As far as the design. I think the back came together very nice. I like the “angry eyes” on the tail lights. The entire rear also looks more thought out than the current Vette. Everything looks like it’s supposed to go where it is. The front is a different story. Too much mouth for me. I like the idea of having the headlamps on the fenders, but the vents are a bit much and look better on the rear. Also, I like the little ricer vent on the front of the side skirts. Looks like they’re meant to be there. Maybe think of a way to integrate some fog lamps into the front end and that could help push it farther. Unless of course they only commission you to do a front and rear shot and you could care less about what it looks like.

-While that is true, it happened in the early 20th century before any company had market dominance. The Corvette was founded in the mid 1950’s way after the merger of those brands. The Corvette is GM, if GM is to survive, they need that car. You have to not want GM to survive to want it to spin off. GM deserves that car since they developed it, not in someone’s undeserving control. You spin ff bad unprofitable companies to help them survive. Not your profitable pride and joy! That’s bad business!
