It has a name: Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Concept

No, it’s not a one-off a car created for “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.” It turns out the mystery Corvette spotted on the set of the Paramount/Dreamworks flick is actually the Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Concept. The show car celebrates 100 years of motoring history at GM, with a look toward the future.

The vehicle will likely debut at the Los Angeles auto show in November, though it could arrive some time sooner or later. There is some speculation the car might preview the 2011 Corvette C7 (which will go on sale in mid-2010), but at this point we have no confirmation whatsoever.

  1. I really think this is just a car GM did just for the movie. At least I hope it is, because it’s a very childish characature of a what a Corvette might look like in 2050, not 2012. And, there is no way this car (if it is indeed a C7) is mid-engine. The proportions are that of a front engine car, as it should be.

  2. “which arrives in theaters about a year from now.”

And they’re still shooting? That’s a very quick turnaround for a movie this difficult to produce.

“though it could arrive sooner or later.”

    Well, duh.

Actually, those new photos don’t appear to be photos at all. They look more like 3D renders on the keying backdrop. I’m personally not very fond of the design.

Any guesses as to who this is going to be? My guess is Jazz after he gets rebuilt.

  3. Poor camera shot. Whatever that car is, I like it. But to be a production Corvette, it is going to need some work, especially since it doesn’t look like anyone taller than 4 feet can fit in that car.

  4. As if getting in and out of a Corvette isn’t a struggle already, the concept now has half doors. Brilliant! Of course extreme styling like this won’t see the light of day in production but it’s an interesting concept.

  5. More interesting is the little green hatchback in the background of the 3rd pic. Very interesting, anyone know what it is?

Isn’t that from the Star Wars: A New Hope opening scene?

It’s not a rendering. You can see where someone used the eraser tool in photoshop outlining the car. It’s more than a bit over the top. This is better suited to Hollywood than Detroit.

  7. So is this thing going to be the next Camaro or what? Is GM going to “preview” the next Corvette for 3-4 years before it is available to the public? You can only hype something for so long… people are going to start expecting results sooner or later.

  9. Just a concept people. GM has shown Corvette concepts since the early 1950’s. Some of the concepts definitely were previews of styling hints for the next generation (Mako Shark concept of the ’60’s comes to mind), while other concepts never saw the light of day in production. GM actually showed a Corvette concept once with a mid-engine rotary! That obviously never saw production (although certain styling elements eventually became part of the C5, sort of).

  10. They should have one tail pipe per cylinder, why did they stop at 4 when they could have made 8? It’s just a prototype that went a little over the top for the Transformers movie. Like Z06ified said, there have been some pretty crazy and off the wall ‘Vette concepts in the past, which I have seen at some of the NYC and Toronto auto shows.

  11. Do you honestly think that GM or any car company would show a true concept car this way? This is nothing more than a Hollywood created car for a movie.

Comment by vincentvegas74, posted on July21 at 9:58 am
  12. It made more sense having GM turn Transformers into one giant car commercial because they were pushing a car that the masses could afford. I don’t know why they’d spend huge money to promote a car that, while there are a lot of Corvettes on the road, doesn’t appeal to a mass audience because it’s either too expensive or not practical. Corvette guys will buy Corvettes without having to see them in a movie.

Also, I’m agreeing this is very “Hollywood” Take a good look at the rear end and tell me that’s not gonna end up looking a LOT like the C4, C5, C6 rear by the time it hits production.

  13. It’s definitely something for Hollywood but it is a GM designed concept… That’s their logo on the rear fascia… Whatever it is.

  20. GM didn’t build this car just for one movie. It will be shown at the upcoming auto shows in Detroit, NY, etc. Guaranteed. There are many reasons automakers build concept cars like this. The two most important are to build interest and awareness, and to gauge consumer’s response to what works and what doesn’t. They never showed a concept version before the C6 was introduced, but they are for the C7. The C7 is coming in 2011-2012, which isn’t far off from now in car design timelines. The Corvette designers are busy right now drawing sketches, and building clay mock-ups for the C7. Some of their ideas are in this concept car, and they want to see what styling ideas will stick with the public, and what won’t.

  21. lifesize hotwheels.. thats what im saying.. it looks to hollywood to be a conventional car.. and looks to fake to be used in transformers.. they use real cars for them giving them a more realistic look.. but its looks ok to some extent..

  22. dispite its very cartoony look…it’s really grown on me. I kinda like it. It’s different, while it still retains much of the conventional vette styling everyone is used to. and the little stingray on the fender was a nice touch

  24. THey put the CONCEPT CAMARO IN THE MOVIE- now that the camero that is really coming out next spring when the movie comes will be different than the one they used in the first movie(GAY) and **** GM they have made the TF movie’s nothing but a 2hour ****ing commercail. JAZZ WAS A Porsche member! And bumble bee” a camero and the star for the most part. Sure he is cooler as a camero but should have been an old beetle and fucused more on a good plot not a GM commercial showcasing there best car’s. The only one they didn’t **** up was Optumus well not so bad beside’s he got he ass kicked in the movie that would have never happened in the C1. Humans were in the back round before now they can kill a 20 foot robot SURE **** Buckhimer he’s a fag money hungry bitch

  34. Seems like a bit much for a Vette. If this is what the new Vette is going to be than you can bet the price tag will carry a bit more weight than the current. Just by the way the body is put together it looks like it could easily cost 100k at a dealership.

  37. It’s cool…if you’re 12. Way too overdone. Looks like a Hot Wheels car from the 70’s. If anything, they need to tone down even from the current car, not make a caricature out of the thing.

  38. I’m glad the Concept Corvette looks like a Corvette. That’s been my biggest problem with Corvettes since the last 15 years.
I was born in ‘64. I have no problem with a car looking like a characature or a Hot Wheel, if it looks good. Look at the Commemorative Mustang.
“And “bumble bee” a camero and the star for the most part. Sure he is cooler as a camero but should have been an old beetle.” ….I agree. He should have started out as an old Beetle. The joke about his dad buying him a peice of crap car would have been funnier. When girlfriend pops the hood and sees the honkin’ engine, it would have been a REAL shock. And when Mizz Priss comments about BumbleBee looking like a piece of junk, THEN have him change into the Camero. But they didn’t ask me.

  42. Yea, um, foster1, Jazz was a Pontiac Solstice not a Porsche. Unless he was a Porsche before the movie, in which case I don’t know. GM sponsored the movie, so of course it featured GM vehicles. Quit your whining.

Comment by C6Racer, posted on August8 at 5:37 pm
  43. Jazz was a Porsche back in the ’80s. Bumblebee was an old VW Beetle. Prime was a flat-nosed semi truck. Ironhide and Ratchet were some sort of funky minivan-looking things. Starscream was an F-15. Megatron was a pistol, and was actually one of the coolest toys ever. The little freaky guy, Frenzy, was originally a cassette tape that was inserted into Soundwave, a “ghetto blaster”. They turned Frenzy into a replacement for Soundwave for the movie. Barricade, Blackout, Bonecrusher, Devastator and Scorponok were non-existent in the first generation back in the ’80s.

I don’t know what this ‘Vette is going to be, but I’m thinking they will either replace Jazz with it, or revive him as this ‘Vette.
