The 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible represents the latest iteration of America's favorite sports car. The sixth-generation model -- called C6 -- was first introduced in 2005.

The biggest news for the 2008 model is the addition of GM's 6.2L LS3 powerplant. Thanks to the boost in displacement, the Corvette Convertible now kicks out 430 horspower, with an optional sports exhaust system adding another 6. Maximum torque is 424 pound-feet on the basic model and 428-pound feet with the improved exhaust.

Channeling that added power to the rear wheels is either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The manual features improved manual transmission shift effort for 2008. The automatic delivers quicker shift times and a 2.73 performance axle ratio.

Despite the massive amount of power on tap, a Corvette Convertible equipped with a six-speed manual achieves 16/26 mpg city/highway and does not incur a federal government gas-guzzler penalty.

Buyers can also add more sport to the Corvette Convertible by adding the Z51 performance package, which includes a revised suspension, larger brakes with cross-drilled rotors as well as several other go-fast goodies.

The standard model comes with a manually operated canvas top, while 3LT and 4LT models come with a powered unit.

A new standard split-spoke cast aluminum wheel design comes with the Convertible. Also available is a polished forged aluminum wheel design. Interior trim enhancements have been made across the range, including a wrapped center trim plate with Cyber pattern and new, brushed aluminum accents.

A custom Leather-Wrapped Interior Package is available for all models in new Linen and Sienna colors. Two new premium exterior colors: Jetstream Blue Metallic Tintcoat and Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat are available.

A Keyless Access remote key fob with integrated key is also new for 2008. An iPod/MP3 jack is included on all sound systems except navigation (Personal Audio Link available as accessory for navigation system). OnStar and XM Satellite Radio are standard on all models. Auto-dimming mirrors with compass are also standard on all models.
