I will not pretend to be an expert on Corvettes but I would like to state that a friend of mine went through 17 Corvettes before he promptly switched to a Viper GTS, I asked him if it was all about the performance and he told me for the most part yes, but also because he found that when he pulled up to a meet next to a bunch of Vette’s in the Viper, suddenly nobody cared about the Vette’s.

As much as Tony Clark doesn’t want to admit it he secretly loves the Corvette! lol

my only reservation about the current base model is that it isnt eye catching or agressive looking enough, park it next to my C5 Z06 and you see what I mean. Other then that the corvette is seriously one of the finest cars on the road today at any price. Its fast, comfortable, and looks great, sure the interior doesnt belong in a 50,000 car, but its pretty much the only downfall in an other wise steller automobile.

I agree that “enthusiasts” love the car….need to work on everyone else.

Need to get 16 year old boys to wet their pants again just to get close to one.
Need to get 23 year old women dream again about getting into one.

A limited production bare knuckles car with no options and no lux would help the Corvette name a lot.

I agree with just about all the comments above (save Borat). Good review. As with the aforementioned Cadillac CTS, and despite its Cobalt-plastic interior, it’s an American car that I would be happy to seen in.

My only suggestion—and I’m admittedly nitpicking—was that while there was mention of the H, the review could have used a sentence or two describing the NV. Does it have that tightened-up, solid feel that you’ll find in the CTS?

Back in the early eighties my father went on a bit of a Vette bender, going through 2 of them in a little over 3 years. What I particularly remember is that before he bought either of them he must have test driven at least a half dozen others looking for one that felt tight, as in minimal creaks and rattles. To me it’s a little disconcerting that a quarter century later the odd C6 is still rolling off the line with the same build quality issues as the C3.

Andrew, thanks for the comment…cool to see you guys pay attention to us and our opinions! and I should have said ‘many’ instead of most. From my experience selling ‘vettes for four years only a handful ever took them to the track, most were daily and/o weekend drivers. Did you all take the Magnetic Selective on the track? I have always been curios how it would do compared to the Z51 on a track situation.

We chose the Z51 because Chevy bills it as the perfect combination for track enthusiasts – a large number of Corvettes are driven on closed courses. The Magnetic Selective shocks are fantastic from our experience, however. Thanks!

LLN, you should have asked Chevy for a Corvette with the Magnetic Selective Ride…on the ’08’s and newer, they use the same vented brakes and many of the features you’d find on the Z51 performance package, BUT you get a much better ride in town with the dampining available. Best of both worlds imho, especially if you spend more of you time on the street, like most ‘Vette owners do.

Good review, fair and unbiased. I agree with the interior and steering wheel comments. They’re not deal breakers, but they are obvious shortcomings, and it wouldn’t cost GM much to improve them. Since the C7 has been delayed until 2015 or something ridiculous like that, I think a mid model cycle interior overhaul is in order for the C6, especially if its going to be in production for another 7 years. I heard they are going to offer some significant changes to the C6 for the 2010 model year, and I hope an entirely new interior is one of them. Don’t forget the seats and steering wheel too!
