CORVETTES have always been available in Japan, but not in large numbers. In Fact, the car is a rarity. Kind of like trying to catch a view of a LAMBORGHINI in the US. CORVETTES are actually sold in their own dealerships… CORVETTE Dealerships not CHEVROLET Dealerships that carry CORVETTES.

Only about 100 CORVETTES are imported a year and sell for double the going rate in America. The CORVETTE has a strong fan following in Japan, but then if any of them like cars they love The VETTE. Not at the exclusion of their own respectable and more accessible sports cars, but they will stop and stare longer than they will for a GT-R35.

We kind of take it for granted the sheer attitude and more raw nature of American cars, but in Japan were it sucks to stand out and everything in vanilla. they will strive until they die to stand out even a little. The CORVETTE is an easy way to not only proclaim you have money, but you got style apart from the crowd. Like buying a Ferrari, at least in Japan, it is about exclusivity and the oft more desirable individuality.

I think they’ll sell every last one over there. Owning a ‘Big American’ car over there is rare so its deemed prestigous, because you need to have money to have one. jonstew, don’t worry about it. There are plenty of us who appreciate Corvettes without resorting to racist remarks full of poor grammar and spelling. I just had a great weekend vacation in my Corvette and am looking forward to a Corsa exhaust this month. One thing I don’t like about the C6 is that hump with the brake light, so it’s nice that the spoiler blends that in a little better.

I think their sales figures are about right, and they may actually have a tough time selling the 30 in Japan. The Japanese are extremely biased and HATE American cars, and the Corvette is no exception. The only Japanese who will buy a Corvette are the super-wealthy who want to drive something different. Not to mention I think they are taxed based on engine displacement, so 6.2L is gonna sting a bit.
