General Motors has announced that Chris Perry will be taking over as vice president of marketing for the company’s Chevrolet division. Following GM’s latest trend, Perry was enticed away from Hyundai ’s marketing department.

“Chris brings 25 years of marketing experience – more than 20 years in the automotive industry – to the Chevrolet marketing position,” Joel Ewanick, GM’s U.S. vice president of marketing, said. “I have worked with Chris in the past and know he will use his unique ability to integrate strategic and creative marketing activities across all communications disciplines to reconnect consumers to the Chevrolet brand.” Ewanick joined GM from Hyundai earlier this year.

Perry has spent the last 10 years with Hyundai, starting as head of brand planning and eventually moving his way up to the position of vice president of marketing and communications. Before working for Hyundai, Perry spent a decade in Isuzu’s marketing department, holding a variety of different roles.

Perry will be replacing Jim Campbell, who will now head GM’s Performance Vehicles and Motorsports division. Campbell made headlines earlier this year when he penned an internal memo that banned GM employees from using the term “Chevy” in place of Chevrolet. Perry will report directly to his former colleague, Ewanick.
