For those without a job, spend this Saturday doing a quick little study. Go to your local Chevy dealer, count all the Camrys and copy their VIN numbers, then do a Carfax report on them to see if they we're bought at an action or traded-in. I'm sure it's not hard to find out how many Malibus were sold at the that dealership, or at least a rough estimate. I personally think it's not that crazy to think that 1.3% (which would be only like two or three cars per dealership) is a little low and that GMs average is probably a little high. When you consider that the Camry has been the number one selling automobile for many years, it would make sense that it was the most traded-in foreign car. How could it not be?

GM has a way to go to get into the same league of a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Ford voluntarily left the segment and has only revisited it with the Fusion.

I would say the new Malibu is better but not on par with the Camry or Accord and or even Fusion with the 6 speed transmission.

I test drove Malibu (but 6 cylinder only) and it was a decent car, albeit shnoze heavy. I am sure that 4 cylinder is better driving car. Frankly, I liked Malibu better then Camry, and why not, Opel designs great cars. But it is not in the same league as Accord. In my opinion Altima feels better then Malibu and Camry. Camry is very wobbly and Buick like. I also tend to believe J.D. Powers not GM: if 1.4% Malibu buyers trade in Camrys it is not an indicator of overwhelming success. Owner of quality Camry will not rush to trade it in just because he saw new Malibu, so we are talking either very defective Camrys or very old ones.

Lol DrFill, the Malibu is slowing increasing production (the fukken UAW workers that are striking though are not helping). Either way, the current production is 20,000 a month which is catching up to the Altima. What is incredible is that the vast majority are retail sales, not rental sales, so while decreasing rental sales they are still growing their total sales.

Can't wait to hear what the import-humpers have to say.

The art of the spin.
Malibu's real competition is Nissan Altima.
It SHOULD be able to sell as well as the Altima.
That will tell me how successful the car is.
That's about 25k a month.
I don't wanna hear about beating 4-star Generals if GM can't beat a sergeant.

It's nice to see that Chevy is building something other than a Corvette or a Suburban that people are willing to buy. Overall the car looks pretty good until you get to the 1/4 pannels & beyond, then....it leaves me thinking.........FTW happened here? To me the rear of the car looks like an after thought or maybe they said.f**k it, it's good enough. Whatever happened......if I was in the market for something like this the back completely ruins it for me.

Theres needs to be an independent source to see if anyone has traded in an import for a Malibu
Since one source is GM I have no choice but to listen to the other
And just so you know a 3 year study to determine how a car WILL perform vs a solid statistic is slightly different
Even Need more oil doesn't believe that people are trading in Camrys and Accords for a Malibu lol
Please

I feel sorry for any chap who had to trade in a Ferrari for a Malibu.

It'd be a funny trade-in though. You trade your old car for a new car, and also get cash back ...

the malibu is the least exciting car when compared to the accord, camry, and altima. it does look nice, though.

still, good for gm. not sure i buy the 40% foreign trade-in rate though.

The camry was the most traded in vehicle? Am I the only one hearing the voices singing "Hallelujah" in my head?

Hahaha driving excitment, drive a V6 Malibu and a V6 camry within an hour of each other and youll see which one you like better and which one handles better and is faster. And only the front half of the Malibu has "style", the back is ulgy with giant tailights. Dont get me wrong its a huge improvement but to call the Camry and Accord "transportoasters" compared to the Malibu is sad.

It's good to know that JDP reported the low Camry trade-in stat because our resident nipponophiliac says JDP is pay-for-play BS and so the reality is a lot more people are unloading their import-branded transportoasters for something with some style, flair, and a bit of driving excitement.
