In an effort to increase fuel mileage, General Motors has announced that the new Chevrolet Malibu will be available with a four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. No cars in the U.S. currently offer this fuel-saving combination.
With this setup, the Malibu is expected to return fuel mileage in the low 30 mpg range, according to The Detroit News. The transmission/engine combination will be available in the first half of next year. GM also said that it would be launching a $100 million ad campaign for the upcoming sedan. The Chevy Malibu with hit showrooms November 1 as a 2008 model.
