The work-ready Silverado 2500HD will obviously share most of its styling with its light-duty cousin, but these images do reveal some key difference. The Silverado 2500 will make use of eight-lug wheels - versus six for the 1500 model - and will also ride slightly higher than Chevy's standard-issue Silverado. We can also see what appears to be a more substantial frame peeking out, along with a larger exhaust system.
GM is readying a new eight-speed automatic for its Silverado 1500, but that gearbox likely won't be available in HD models. Insiders say the eight-cog unit simply can't stand up to the torque demands of Heavy Duty trucks.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is expected to begin production October 2013.
