Today, Chevrolet confirmed new details on the all-electric version of the upcoming Spark minicar.
This car marks an important milestone as it will be the first true, pure-electric vehicle from General Motors, giving GM arguably the most complete range of propulsion options offered in North America when it arrives in 2013.

“The Spark EV offers customers living in urban areas who have predictable driving patterns or short commutes an all-electric option,†said Jim Federico, global vehicle chief engineer for electric vehicles at Chevrolet.
The little car will make use of an advanced nanophosphate lithium-ion battery pack that comes from battery supplier A123 Systems, the former partner to Chrysler that GM has now made a regular partner of its own. For now, GM isn’t quite ready to divulge into the details of the car in terms of pricing, power, range, quantities, or even markets – but it is expected that California will be a key market for the car.
GM currently has EV demo fleets operating in Shanghai, China, Korea and India, all of which it says are feeding information into the development of the U.S.-spec Spark EV.
GM did confirm a 2013 market arrival, along with other global markets, but quantities will be limited.
