Chevrolet has just lifted the veil off of the all-new Spin minivan. Developed exclusively with global markets in mind, it will not be sold in the United States or in Europe.

With its tall ride height and its four forward-hinged doors, the Spin lies halfway between a minivan and a SUV. It measures 171 inches long, 68 inches wide and 65 inches tall.

The van's front end is heavily inspired by the bowtie brand's current design language, making it instantly recognizable as a Chevrolet product.

The Spin's interior was intentionally designed to be as basic as possible, a philosophy that is similar to the one that is inspiring Dacia designers.

Customers will be able to order the Spin as either a five-seater with two rows of seats or a seven-seater with three rows. Regardless of which configuration is chosen the seats can be removed if extra cargo room is needed.

In Brazil, Chevrolet's latest van will only be offered with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that can run on either gasoline or ethanol. It is rated at 108 horsepower when burning ethanol and 106 horsepower when burning gas.

Although the American automaker claims that the van will be the only vehicle in its class to offer a six-speed automatic transmission, entry-level models will come standard with a five-speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet dealers throughout Brazil are already taking orders for the Spin but it is destined for much broader horizons. A second important market for the van will be Indonesia, where production is slated to start early next year. The Spin will spearhead Chevrolet's expansion in the Southeast Asian country.

"This will be a vehicle built for the people of Indonesia, by the people of Indonesia. It will be a vehicle of which Indonesia can be proud," said Martin Apfel, the president of GM's Southeast Asian operations.

Technical details for the Indonesian version of the Spin will be released closer to its launch.
