Rainmain: The "display" in the dash is actually a fully functional navigation system that can also show the current functions of the hybrid system.

I have sold two Hybrid Tahoes and both my customers love them and are getting in the low 20's on the 4WD to mid 20's on the 2WD on average!

This is a Full Size SUV that is meant, like the article says, for someone who still needs or wants the safety, luxury, power and convienence of a FULL SIZE SUV and would like to make a 'green' statement and save $ on fuel in the long run. And with gas prices probably sticking around $4/gall if not going up, it will take even less time for the Hybrid to itself off.

If you don't like it or don't need a vehicle this size then don't buy it. Thats the great thing about America boys and girls, you have choices :)

Push 6000 pounds up your driveway. Ha Ha Ha Ha
Lots of burned up transmission are coming back for warranty.

What a piece of shit. - It’s not a POS it’s a GM and you should buy it bc its American!

Hybrid? Oh so it gets 10 mpg instead of 9? Awesome. - Yea it’s the best hybrid around better than a Prius and the resale value will be through the roof

Built in Texas too. The best things come from Texas Our president, his daddy and LBJ
What a surprise. I hope GM burns to the ground with Chrysler. - Well if it’s a GM its will burn down to the ground and take a house with it.

It’s shit like this that makes American cars laughable. American cars are not laughable they are the best and even though there is a superior Japanese product out there you should be a good American and buy this spicy hybrid or is it mild? I don’t know, all I know is that it’s American and buy it or you are a commi bastard

And why does the fucking interior still look like it’s from the 90’s!?- Well forgive GM they are a little slow. What should it matter that GM is 12 years behind and now they are copying the designs of Japanese cars from the 90's?

What I don't understand is why there aren't hybrid delivery trucks. Think about the amount of fuel a company like UPS, FedEx, or the USPS uses per day on a nationwide scale to deliver items. The trucks are run hundreds of miles daily... in-city... stop-and-go. The exact conditions that a hybrid excells in. If GM can fit hybrid technology into a Tahoe and get a 5MPG savings... I don't see why it can't be upscaled further into a straight truck. Even a 3MPG increase per truck would mean millions in savings to a company like UPS... and it would mean that much more fuel on the market for everyone else to use. The same thing goes for police cruisers and school busses.

What i cant quite understand is a full size suv hybrid. Now when i hear hybrid, im thinking amazing MPG. 21.7 Mpg is not amazing gas milage. Especially when it is competing against cars like the Flex, that is 24mpg and 20 thousand dollars cheaper. Why would someone pay almost 10,000 more for technology theyll hardly ever use. I sell cars and i make it a point to tell the truth about this “HYBRID” technology. Its a bunch of wash. The only time you use electric is when your driving under 25 miles an hour. I know for me, that doesnt happen very often. They’re really meant for only city drivers. But then again with the inflation of price on anything in the city, and public transportation on every corner, it would be dumb to dip into your savings account to pay $48,000 on a vehicle, with no leather, moon, nav or any of the “extra”amenities. Chevy is banking of the logic that America is going “green”. That is very true. America is uniformed about this relatively new technology, when they see 21 MPG on this thing i think it will become a wake up call. Does anyone agree..... If your looking for better gas milage. A v-8 is a joke. If you want better mpg jump into a prius or focus

johnnycanuck, I agree with your point. X5 is made in US and plastic is sourced from the same supplier as GM.

Actually, I think it is what our country needed 5 years ago. Today perception of Tahoe as a gas guzzler supersede any notion of savings. Perhaps secret service can use them.

"With a starting price of $49,590, the Tahoe Hybrid commands a few thousand dollar premium over the standard Tahoe, but buyers will actually recoup the difference in gas savings in about five years."

Only two years after most of the buyers of this tank will have wanted to trade out of it

A "hybrid" with a 6.0L V8 is a crock. GM would have been better off going with the gasoline engine only and the weight savings from the battery packs and regenerative brakes and etc. would have resulted in better fuel economy.

What is with the big center-dash display in every hybrid that has to show exactly what the thing is doing the whole time? Does anyone really care? Does the driver have his/her eyes glued to that huge screen while going down the road? How much battery power does the display and the computers that run it consume?

I've gotta get my crack in on the "manouverability" of one of these things too. I believe a Sherman tank would do a better job navigating the parking deck at the local mall than this pig of a vehicle.

Nobody that needs to tow 6000lbs is going to buy one of these... they are all being driven by 5'3" yuppie soccer moms who thought that their mini-van wasn't good enough.

Chevy is banking of the logic that America is going “green”. That is very true. America is uniformed about this relatively new technology, when they see 21 MPG on this thing i think it will become a wake up call. Does anyone agree?

Regarding plastic quality I think both GM and ford are already there, and perhaps they have surpassed their counterparts.

When I hop into Hondas and Toyotas hard cheap plastics abound (new models included), along with cheap looking stenciling on the buttons, but when I hop into new Fords and GMs I find nicer soft-touch plastics. A good example of this is the Mercury Milan, which gets a bad rap but if you stick your hand out and touch the dash it's pretty nice.

I've actually seen reviews of domestic run-of-the-mill cars where the reviewer finds some hard or cheap-feeling plastic component buried up under the dash and bemoans thru-out the entire paragraph how the domestic attention to detail is lacking, however they don't seem to bother to stick their hand out and touch the hard crap plastic on the dash of an Accord.

As for the quality of BMW plastics, it's a myth. BMW interior plastics are no better than Toyota or Ford, and in fact their dash designs are gimmicky. BMW simply plays off the mentality of <i>"you're paying more so it must be better ..... right?"</i>

"The result of the hybrid system is a vehicle that can tow up to 6,200 pounds and still win Green Car Journal’s “2008 Green Car of the Year” award."
That's ****ed up, how can you give a 3ton, 6L V8 useless brute a "Green Car Award"!?!
Who runs that magazine. Bob Lutz?

"But despite that heft, the Tahoe Hybrid is extremely maneuverable at parking lot speeds..."
Typical press-release nonsense mumbo-jumbo! Even a top-fuel dragster, a 60's muscle car, a train or a shipyard crane are somewhat "maneuverable" at those speeds but that doesn't mean they can corner...

The one thing I'm getting tired of hearing about is the term 'quality of plastics', and specifically- as is virtually always implied- that the domestics can't make a chunk of dash or a door panel that in some completely intangible standard of measurement looks as good as the Japanese or European marques. Ever sat in a BMW X5 with a black interior lately? I have, an '00 and an '08. I had to get out to make sure it was a different vehicle. I swear the dash cover was the same part.

So quit harping on this trivial BS. Please get off the road before you start an argument with the guy in the rear view mirror.
