whats the problem? the dual mode can be mated to a 400+ horsepower engine no problem, all of the engines horsepower will still be there with even more bottom end torque, soundsw like a good idea.

jackjimturkey, there were no "environmentally conscious redneck" remarks however don't miss the "meth" (presumably a trailer trash) comment about halfway up. There's always one sheep in the group willing to go for the cheap points.

What's not to like about this setup? The added benefits of torque and greater fuel efficiency are a bad thing? These guys are whining because it gives them one less thing to bitch and moan about GM for. Seriously said it correctly above, "get rid of the stigma". If the goal is to get better mileage to the masses, then put it in the vehicles people want to drive and those that need it most. Not some clown car that demands people take notice of your ultra devotion to mileage or mother earth. I find it funny to watch these anti-domestic jesters on here crumble as GM takes the lead on these things.

Honda wanted to take a no compromises approach with the Insight. The wheel well covers look stupid but it works. The best aerodynamics possible. But now they are unnecessary and completely undesirable. No one else did it or does it.

Honda has been on the short end of the Hybrid stick for a while, being to only company to actually withdrawn Hybrid models from the market. The Insight was understandable. It was obsolete. But the Accord Hybrid? Slow sales are no excuse.

Just another sign that HONDA is greatly overrated in my eyes.

If y'all are right and you can get the same or better low end torque and save on gas you'd be stupid not to want it. Get rid of the stigma, fuel efficient hybrid cars don't just come with that stupid cover over the back tires anymore. Why did they always do that anyways?

Great comment Blakkarr! It is sooo true that no one said crap about the Toyota FT-S and HT-S being hybrids. Although I was impressed that they were able to claim that they could get 400hp out of a hybrid powerplant, sounds cool to me.

Also there are plenty of benefits of an electric hybrid powerplant. How fast is the Tesla 0-60? Oh under 4 seconds. (even though it's a 2600lbs Lotus chassis) which helps.

Although it's more than likely that a two-mode hybrid possibly coming from a 5.3L V8 or a 3.6L V6 (which is the V6 making it into the V6 Camaro) will probably be what will actually be running this. I guess we'll see where it goes if it goes.

Shock and moan. Why should a Hybrid muscle car upset anyone. The name of the game is power and performance.

Where were the criers when Toyota rolled out the LF-A and FT-HS as Hybrids. Where was the "No fair!" the "That's gonna suck!" and all other mealy-mouthed bitching.
The fact is the bad old days were yesterday. Today we will get our big V8 Camaro. Tomorrow parallel Hybrids and turbo V6 (and you won't miss any of the go fast). The day after... Serial hybrids and pure electrics.

If an EV1 can dust a 300ZX to 60 working on ten years ago, imagine what you could do in five years or so. Hybrids are great, skip the Prius biased-prejudices. Trust me, if Hybrids can be exciting, GM and/or Toyota will bring it. Heck, Fisker is ready to do it already.

Electric acceleration, quiet cruising, brute power, and you can go 400+ miles on a tank. What's the problem with that?

Let's see, the Tahoe hybrid gets 20 mpg combined and the Pontiac G8 V8(close to Camaro) gets 18 combined under the new mpg testing. If I had to guess I'd say a 6.0 V8 dual mode Camaro would get about 23 or 24 mpg combined under the new mpg testing and cost probably 40 to 45 large.

tax rebate for buying a camaro. Why is this a bad idea it has a v8 and a electric motor = more instant torque. even as a pony car this will save gas and what is wrong with that

Murdered, I doubt GM will decide not to offer a traditional V8 alongside the hybrid one, so there's a choice.

As long as it's still a high-displacement V8 attached to the hybrid systems and not some anemic 4-cylinder, it could work. GM's two-mode is an impressive system, and the extra torque from the electric assist systems would complement the already substantial V8 power. Throw a supercharger in the mix, and you have a complex but ridiculously powerful coupe that still gets LS2 Corvette fuel efficiency. I'd drive it.

GM is finally emerging as the automaker who understands where hybrids work: large, V8-driven vehicles that are already characterized by a nice boatload of torque and wouldn't mind another boost, all while getting the mileage of your average mid-sized V6 sedan.

Just don't stick a damn green-lettered "Hybrid" badge on it. Keep it subtle. The only thing outsiders need to know about your hybrid Camaro is that within a few seconds they won't be able to see it in the distance.

If the electrical hybrid part of the system was geared correctly though, it would provide the driver with amazing amounts of low-end torque.

Problem is, the consumer has it in their mind right now that Hybrid only equates to economy and not performance. Didn't Lexus do something like that with their hybrid GS? I thought it was actually faster than the regular model but I could be wrong there.

The car hasn't even hit the market and I'm already tired of it. Camaro needs to adapt to the times or suffer from and increasingly scrupulous auto buyer.
Having said that, I wouldn't buy a hybrid, but will be looking for a turbo-diesel sedan or wagon for my next ride.

=========>>lol its bout time 640 reached into his brain and grabbed some sense....totally correct. Its no point in a "hybrid-muscle car". An Escalade Hybrid, i understand 100%. But a Camaro Hybrid? a tired, utterly pathetic joke.

What's the point of a hybrid Camaro, 640? Its so Camaro owners can spend less money on gasoline and more money on meth.

IF this hybrid Camaro is more than a rumor and is at least reasonably successful, a RWD Impala and Buick cold be very likely.

But I wonder exactly how GM's current views might effect the Denali XT.
