General Motors will pause production of the Chevrolet Corvette at the sports car’s iconic Bowling Green, Kentucky, plant for the week of October 6. When production resumes on October 13, the automaker says that some employees will be laid off and that production will be slowed.
According to Automotive News, this marks the first cut in Corvette production since 1995. Up to 75 people could be laid off as production drops from 18.5 Corvettes per hour to 15. The plant also makes the Cadillac XLR, but it’s unclear what will happen with XLR production.

The Corvette had been having a hard year thanks to a weak economy and high gas prices, though sales rebounded strongly in response to August’s “Employee Pricing for Everybody” sales event which also included 2008 Corvettes.
