Roy -- exactly. It's like these people don't read the newspapers. The financial world as we know it is coming to an end, and here come these poor fools with their $46,000 Chevrolets.

I checked the inventory online of the nearest Chevy dealer. the one thye had in stock was a brand spankin' one with an MSRP of $46,475. That's going to be there a long time. Whoever did the ordering needs to get a load of reality. An Enclave for $46K - maybe. Definitely not a Traverse.

TomF,

The Traverse we tested is one step below top-of-the-line. I have spent time crawling around a base 2WD Traverse LS and, other than a rear differential (GM expects that well over half of all Traverses will be 2WD, limiting their ability to traverse...) and some creature comforts, it's the same basic vehicle.

johnnycanuck,

I tend to agree with you on those sliding doored vehicles, but the market doesn't. GM has never been able to do well with a minivan. And that's just what these Lambdas are - "butch" vans without sliding doors.

GM should hand over the unibody and let each division design and build it's own version.

Wait.

That was how GM used to be.

Harley Earl is crying.

$40k as tested for the "cheap" Lambda? As we head into a depression with higher borrowing rates and a smaller pool of eligible buyers? GM must be operating in an alternate universe.

The Buick - GMC dealership I drive past on my morning commute has fleets of new Enclaves and Acadias lined up hopefully / sadly on the front lot, all marked down to the low $30s. They've been sitting there for weeks. Nobody's even driven one.

Badge engineering is unwise at the best of times. In times like these, it really doesn't make any sense -- because dealer markdowns and price incentives at the individual divisions are going to scramble the brand hierarchy and make Chevys cost more than Buicks.

Why is it that GM just can't seem to design decent-looking rear ends for Chevy's as of late? First the Malibu, then the Cruze (most retarded car name, ever), and now this bland piece of crap. Their fronts all seem to have so much promise, but it seems like the designers just give up once their reach the tail.

I just don't know. I sure like those minivan sliding doors better than the standard arrangement if the vehicle's mission is primarily that of a kiddy limo. Not only are they eminently more practical, but you tend to catch far better poses when you're on milf watch without that door getting in the way.
