Chevrolet WTCC Ultra concept to debut in Paris

Chevrolet Europe will unveil a new concept car called the WTCC Ultra at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the automaker announced today. Beneath the muscular exterior — styled by 25-year old designer Ewan Kingsbury — is a fully working vehicle for street and track use. The WTCC is equipped with a 190 horsepower common rail turbodiesel engine, based on the 2.0-litre unit that will debut in the Captiva SUV and Lacetti models next year. Wow! I am shocked to see anything this good even being indirectly related to GM! What an awesome concept. If they don’t mass produce this thing, then the hope for GM is virtually gone. (They’ll have to hurry up with the new Camaro.)

Great but what do they think they are gaining by putting Chevy badges on Daewoos? In the UK and Ireland noone would be buying them if they thought they were American cars anyway

Looks like a civic with some extra flares. Once the engineers get a hand on this it won’t look anything like this. And let’s not forget the impact rules and all.
Plus who over 25 can reallt buy this and not look like an idiot in it.
Bring us something that can happen GM.

This looks like a charecature of a car to me. It looks aggressive and cool, but it looks like a cartoon. Particularly the pic of the black car. Wheel size (and angle!), window to body panel size, just the general aspect ratio of the thing – it looks like a comic book, not a real car.

Go ahead and take some design cues from it (body flares, grill, tail light, spoiler), but I don’t expect to actually ever see a car the truely looks like that.

Personally, I find the product placement advirtising funny. I hope Kumho paid for it.

I noticed a couple comments mentioning Daewoo. Is this certain, or simply assumptions on the part of nay-sayers? I can’t for the life of me believe they would make a Paris Motor show debut for a Daewoo based concept.

I think this car is gorgeous, but unfortunately about 3 years late. This should be in place of the Cobalt, now.

Jerry- chevy NEEDS ppl under 25 to buy there cars. One could say who under the age of 40 will drive the Camaro? There are alot of us fresh0out-of-college-buyers with disposable income. this could take some sales away from the GTI, WRX, SI. they need to keep it aggressive, Big wheels, big flares, the closer to that sketch the better. if it turns into bigger Aveo then it will be sunk. This is the kind of thinking GM needs, young blood, fresh ideas.

I agree the car looks like a caricature, if they tone it down a bit, I think it would look stylish. I don’t understand what happens between concept car to production model that turn most Chevy cars into blandness.

For some reason GM decided to rebadge Daewoos as Chevys for the european market. They even kept the same model names. I have no idea why anyone would think this was a good idea.

Guess not.

If this had a Japanese badge instead of the bow tie it would be another ugly rice burner. But as this is a GM product, it’s “stunning”.

Are you sure you can tolerate this vehicle domestic lovers? The concept art has it wearing Korean tires! Thats American jobs lost! Quick make a website!

Hey wow, a chevy no built for geezers or baby boomers.

Looks like something that could swipe some EVO or WRX sales. Now actually build it, and then actually use a race version to compete in WRC and it would be really cool.

It looks great. It definitely bears the chevy lines well. It looks extremely serious for a small car. And that 190 horse TDi engine isn’t anything to sneeze at either. Now we’ll just have to see if GM can deliver.

The best application of Chevy’s version of the shield grille I had seen. The bulging fender treatment makes the car look like it is ready for WRC. If only more US models are styled this way then Chevy wouln’t have a problem shifting cars.
