China: No Hummer deal application received

10/12/2009, 8:51 AM

By Andrew Ganz

China’s Commerce Ministry said this morning that it has yet to receive an application from Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery to purchase the Hummer brand from General Motors. The Ministry must approve such planned acquisitions – and Tengzhong’s failure to seek approval so far could throw a large fork into salvation plans for Hummer.

“The Ministry of Commerce has yet to receive an application concerning Tengzhong’s purchase of Hummer,” Chinese state radio said, quoting an unnamed Ministry official.

“Currently, the Sichuan province commerce office is preparing to report the situation to the Ministry of Commerce, and because nothing is known about the specific content of the purchase agreement, for now [the ministry] will not say any more,” the official said, according to the report.

On Friday, GM signed a deal with Tengzhong for the company to purchase Hummer from the Detroit automaker for an undisclosed amount.

Whats a bit of paper work! No doubt they are still going ahead with it! Unless the previous article was a bluff, in the anticipation that there were issues/delays, and they wanted to keep their competition out of the picture..

I’m all for a more sinister view on this!

Either a Chinese corporation can’t do paperwork (Which does not bode well for Hummers future)… Or the Ministry of Commerce “Forgot” that they recieved it. That kinda BS wouldn’t suprise me from the Chinese government.

Apparently, NMOFGM fails to realize that blind loyalty does not equate to patriotism.

Healthy criticism, on the other hand, is the entire reason America made great strides in the first place.

I believe the Chinese govt. is simply saying that they have not received their bribe yet. Just like here in the USA, money talks. Govt regulations be d@mned.
