Oh yeah, Americans are sooooooo scared of China, a country who outlawed citizens to have or own guns. China is weak! They are at there peak right now and will fall and fall hard into a brick wall 5 years from now. Look what happened to communist Russia, you guys do realize China is still a Communist country right? The Chinese will never overtake America because most American citizens and households have guns. You might be able to get past the military, which I highly doubt, but you will never get past the American citizens with guns. Besides look how cheaply they make products over there. If they make there military equipment and weapons just as cheap and poorly, they are in some trouble. If anything they will kill themselves from there own led toys. Look how fast America took over Baghdad, what like 1 day? And 3 days the whole country. America could invade China in 1 month and make it its own country according to military experts. Never underestimate the US military or NASA!

Long time reader, first time posting a comment. But I had to b/c I can’t stand ignorant people.
elviososa – Cal is a liberal university, why would they make up a biased story, one that would put another country ahead of the US in anything bad? And I’d rather be stubborn than ignorant. Now you know why China didn’t sign the Kyoto Treaty. How about you look into these things more before you spout off at the mouth. Plain and simple China is the largest polluter.

Mayer, I’m not quite sure you realize what por favor means? And Hemi, who’s been saying the Chinese are more technically advanced than the US? I also don’t see why people should have to boycott all Chinese made products just to protest human rights violations? That’d be like me having to stop buying American products because of our mess in Iraq. I don’t hold citizens and businesses responsible for stupid crap their governments do. Although if anyone did want to boycott China, it should be noted that if WalMart was its own country, it would be China’s 8th largest trading partner.

I don’t agree that China has just as much right the pollute as the U.S. did back in the day. Times have changed, and the technology exsists to lessen environmental impact in virtually everything we do. China, on their quest for global domination, refuses to invest in these technologies, and no one seems all to concerned with stopping them. I also think it’s funny that people are “protesting” the olympics. These are the same people that have “made in China” written on 90% of the **** they own. If you don’t condone it, don’t support it.

hey elviososa, either way China really needs to fix their problem otherwise their people will start making human life expectancy go down. I have a prof who has been there twice recently and he and his wife have become sick only two days after being there. Do you think that might say something about their pollution? Like everyone has said above there has been alot of **** that countries have put into the air, we have had our fair share true, and the atomic bomb crap, pretty sure Russia tested way more than us, besides testing a bomb that was more powerful than all the firepower shot in WW2, look it up. There really is no end in sight of China’s polluting with the UN on their side, in a few years they could possibly, and easily, surpass the total amount of pollutants that the US or any country has produced, which would make it very hard for the earth to try and clean up.

No to mention U.S. had drop two atomic booms in Japan that created huge radioactive disaster although it’s for a good purpose that to end the world war 2. China is just trying to catch up with the western countries, they do have THE RIGHT to pollut as much as the western countries whom has been polluting the earth way before they do. China is just on top of the chat of the first year, and the developed countries have been on the top of the chat for s centry. So whose “total absolute volume” is bigger?? Who is misleading now?

elviososa, I agree with you statistic can be and may be misleading. The problem is that statistic can be collected freely only in open society. That is why you aware of pollution output in US. Do you know of pollution output of Russia? North Korea? China, except what eye can see? Former Soviet Republics in Asia? You can not know that, since all of them have huge areas forbidden not only to journalists but anyone who not suppose to be there. Do you think Iran produced fuel grade plutonium and thought out ahead what they will do with radioactive waste? Do you know what radioactive waste is?

No actually, what YOU just said is a misleading way of twisting the data. The environment and people’s health doesn’t care what the PER CAPITA volume of pollution is, all that matters is the total absolute volume.

If one nation dumps 4 billion metric tons of pollution into the environment, and has 1 trillion people, and another nation dumps 3 billion metric tons, and only has 100 people, guess which nation is adding more total pollution to the environment?

What’s more is because there are more people living in the nation dumping 4 billion metric tons, the effects of that pollution impact FAR more people.

So if you want to try and use per-capita figures to paint a pretty picture about pollution from a country with more people, I will use per-capita figures to point out the far greater cost in health care and cite the far greater number of health issues as a result of it.

The fact of the matter is, whether china ha 1 person living it, or 1 billion, they COLLECTIVELY (as a nation) add more pollution to the environment than anyone else. Per capita analysis of pollution means precisely **** all.

China has no EPA hippies because China has no democracy to begin with. Is that what you want the USA to become? Stop comparing yourself to the worst polluter (depending on how you work the numbers) with one of the worst human right record. Are you willing to lower your living standard and cultural value to that of the Communist Chinese? China is a case of the government whose sole purpose is to generate wealth without any accountability to anything including safety of drivers and occupants as well as the environment.

And if Chinese companies want to sell cars in the US, they need to obey CAFE too. On the other hand, US automakers have no concern about smog and less concern about safety in China and the specs of their cars sold in China are different as well. No one has any advantage.

elvio, if you calculate stats, China produces more pollution per barrel of oil used than the USA ever did. Only reason per capita is lower is that the Chi-comms keep 90% of the people living in squalor.

Hell, Al Gore’s “model for the USA” has a number of cities that are worse than the death-hole of Chernobyl, Russia. And that is per the liberals and Time Ragazine.
