The Chinese government will begin its first independent vehicle crash tests next week. The program aims to align the country’s safety standards with those outlined by the European and American New Car Assessment Programs, according to Xinhuanet. Until now, all crash tests were performed by the automakers, who were not obliged to use the same methodology or disclose results. Undoubtedly, the move is being made in part to prepare Chinese cars for export to Europe and the United States, which have crash standards Chinese cars usually don’t meet.
