Not surprisingly, Chinese patent filings recently revealed that General Motors intends to sell a version of its Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric vehicle in China – most likely badged as a Buick .

The automaker submitted illustrations of the Opel-styled version of the Volt, the Ampera, to China’s patent filing office, and although a specific brand and model name for the vehicle wasn’t listed, it seems almost certain that GM would choose to capitalize on the success of its Buick brand in China.

It’s expected that the China-market model would be built in the same Hamtramck, Michigan, assembly plant as the Volt. Despite the size of China’s new car market, sales volumes for a Buick-badged model would likely be much lower than the North American Chevrolet variant is expected to achieve.
