Italian auto giant Fiat – owner of Alfa Romeo – is apparently looking to sign a joint-venture with Chinese automaker Chery next week that would see the Chinese producing Alfa Romeos in China. Chery already produces Fiat motors, so the two companies do have an existing relationship. Chery would likely produce complete-knock-down (CKD) versions of the 159 and 147 in China.
According to Motor Authority,
Fiat currently works with Nanjing Auto to build Fiat-branded cars, but the Italian automaker is looking to end its relationship in order to focus more on working with Chery. It’s unknown where Fiat would sell the Chinese-built Alfa Romeos, but it’s likely that China would be the target market.
