Chrysler unveiled a range-extended electric concept car, the Chrysler 200 C EV, that heavily previews the replacement for the unloved Sebring sedan. The concept, which Chrysler says is a look at its “new DNA,” features a 40-mile all-electric range and a 400-mile overall range from its electric and conventional powertrains.

Chrysler strongly hinted that the 200C is intended for production based on a “proven platform,” likely either the current Sebring platform or a shortened version of the 300C’s more modern platform. Chrysler said that as the 200C EV currently sits, it’s powered by a 268-horsepower gas-electric hybrid powertrain likely based on Chrysler’s upcoming Phoenix V6. The automaker says it’ll hit 60 mph in about seven seconds

Inside, the 200C EV features a heavy emphasis on in-car connectivity, including a “passenger tablet” that passengers can use to surf the Internet and upload media. The system also links smart phones to the car, so a potential owner could start, adjust the windows and locks and set the interior temperature from a phone.

The interior is obviously not production-ready, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the production-intent model be released at another auto show later this season.
