Chrysler 300 to get interior overhaul

05/06/2006, 2:00 PM

By admin

The Chrysler 300 will get a completely redesigned interior in a forthcoming update, according to Ralph Gilles, vice president of design at the Chrysler Group (pictured). Speaking to the Automotive Press Association, Gilles said, “we need an update [...] you’re going to see a significant improvement in the interior of that car.” He did not say when the revision would come. It needs it. The interior feels like the batcave. And that chrome trim piece around the gearshift pops off if you look at it wrong. That’s also true in the magnum and charger, though.

finally… the weak point of the LX cars has always been the interior… looks good on the outside, but you spend the most time looking at the inside of the car, and the 300 did not look like 30,000 bucks inside…

Eek… I can’t wait til they change the exterior of the car. I can’t stand the 300!

The Charger, on the other hand… WOW! Love it!

Good. This is the problem with this car. Looks like a Bentley on the outside, and looks like a Chrysler on the inside. If they could get the interior to look as good as the Firepower interior, that would be nice.

This is probably the best looking 4 door car to come froma american manufacturer in the last 30-40 years. It appeals to every from the hip-hop generation to the elderly and is one of the main reasons why chrysler makes a profit unlike other american companies.
The interior upgrade couldn’t happen soon enough. Too cheap and plasticky for Chrysler but suitable for Dodge Charger. The next interior should look like the firepowers or imperials concepts hopefully.

probably the most telling comment about the 300’s interior is the huge aftermarket of interior upgrades and complete gut-and-replace kits that exist.

chrysler is a great engineering-driven company, but they do need that interior-designer touch for the insides of the vehicles, no doubt. when i first drove a 300 upon its release some time ago, i thought, oh my god, this car is so plastic-y and cheap! and yet, when i laid into that accelerator, i didn’t give a **** about the plastic door panels any more.

of course, it was a rental and i hadn’t laid out $30K for it, so there you go.
