What I wouldn’t do to still have that LeBaron, AND, your Reliant with a 5-speed! That rocks. Is the Chevy Volt the GM “K-Car”? The vehicle that will help save the company? Where is Chrysler’s new K-Car? I’m bummed, it was sad enough to lose Plymouth, but to lose the whole company would be a serious mental drag.

Gundy, I kind of went the other way with the K-Car thing. My first brand new car was a silver ‘86 Reliant 2 door with the 2.2, bench seat and a 5 spd. Everyone trashes the K but I put 50,000 hard miles on that thing before I sold it to a guy at work who had to have it and I’m still sorry I did. Never had a problem and it was surprisingly fun to drive. Oh yeah, when it came to the chicks the bench seat was an obvious advantage although at times it was tough to reach the stick that worked the gears.

I’m still bummed though, I’ve always liked Chryslers / Dodges / Plymouths / Desotos.. er.. My first “nice” car was a mid-80’s LeBaron convertible, Mark Cross leather edition, silver with silver/gray leather and a black ragtop. Even though it was a K-car-with-chrome, pretty much, with a digital dash, and a 2.6 smooth-as-glass (literally) balanced-shaft Mitsubishi engine, it was a sweet car for a young guy who worked his tail off to make a good living. Can a guy pick up chicks with a talking (your door is ajar, your lights are on..) car and a HUGE $2200 Tandy cell phone in 1987? Yes, yes he can.

Son of a… No more Dr. Z ads?! No wait, those were when they were still being ravaged by Daimler-Benz.. never mind.. I haven’t seen a Challenger ad Johnny. Or, even one with a Challenger in it since the “good ol’ days” of the “ga-huh, hey, that thing got a hemi?”.. (challenger on a trailer being pulled by a Ram pickup) (sorry, didn’t need to explain that one to a group of car guys)
