Auto columnist Bradford Wernle says Chrysler put on a “stunning” show in Detroit this week at the NAIAS, while the efforts from Ford and GM were “downright yawning.” In the buildup to the launch of the Buick Enclave SUV, GM executives “breathlessly (and with a complete lack of irony) cited such product icons as the Gibson Les Paul guitar, Eames chair and Apple iPod MP3 player,” writes Wernle. “Sorry folks, but no new Buick SUV rates a mention in the same breath as those classics. It was embarrassing.” Meanwhile, Wernle says Chrysler put on a tasteful and entertaining show with Eva Longoria, the Slava Snow Show clowns, and a fake snowfall. On the other hand, Peter M. DeLorenzo takes a decidedly different stance. He bashes the “clumsily rendered” Imperial concept for its copycat design and poor proportions, calling it a “design disaster.” He also says the Aspen is an “answer to the question that absolutely no one is asking.” DeLorenzo, meanwhile, praises the Chevrolet Camaro concept as “best in show,” because “it was so easy to not get this one right.”
