Wow, I’m sorry Lambo. I guess I should have known better than to have an original thought. Rather than thinking for myself and trying to evaluate a new vehicle as a whole. I should have followed along with all the other comments and just whine about interior qualities because the car mags tell me to.
Oh no, my finger touched a hard spot! How, oh how can I continue to live??? Grow up, have a thought of your own, and actually look at some of these vehicles for what they are. As far as your it’s ugly comment. Looks are subjective, I happen to like it, I’ve owned a Cherokee before, and it reminds me of it. In closing a sub $15,000, nicely equipped American CUV is far from a bad idea.

I agree Jeep should sell trucks, but DC and Big Brother DODGE don’t want to see that. So, I seriously doubt we’ll see a Jeep truck in the near future. It’s a shame, I’d trade my wrangler in tomorrow on a Turbo Diesel Gladiator if the existed. Hell, I’d trade my Jeep in tomorrow for a JK with a CRD under the hood. Dammit Jeep, Gimme a Diesel Wrangler!!!

I love Jeep. As the owner of a 2005 TJ Wrangler Sport 6-speed, I’m happy as hell with it. Has every option on it, dual tops, small lift, and a few extra toys. I know the plastic is cheap in it, I know the seats are marginally more comfortable than a coach delta ticket. Those arn’t the reasons I bought it. I bought it cause it’s fun and versitile. It’s a modern classic, and goes anywhere, anytime.

Now when I saw these new jeeps, the patiot and compass, I thought it was a joke. Car based Jeeps… right. BUT it makes perfect sense for the company. Jeep knows people buy jeeps and keep them on the street. Jeep knows ladies have huge car buying power. Jeep is aiming at them. Not so much the Testosterone driven (MORE POWER, BIGGER, BETTER) male market. They aready have those customers buying hemi G-Cherokees, Commanders, and new Wranglers. All that was on the lot appealing to “most” women was the Liberty. Offering a cheap, decent MPG vehicle with AWD that is safe will get many, many women in the showroom. Look at the next few Compass’s you spot on the road. I’ll bet you a shiny nickle it’s driven by a woman.

Yeah, Jeep seems to be diluting its own brand in an effort to build numbers.

Nothing different really than GM stuffing 4 different versions of the Enclave down the markets’ throat. It dilutes the brand/nameplate in the name of sales.

Jeep will sell more vehicle this year then any in its history. This crappy car does make good business sense. But it seems like a short term strategy, that makes one wonder what the cost to there brand image will be long term. To me Jeep should be selling trucks in addition to there SUVs, not small cars. They should not make anyhting that can’t be turned into a serious off road vehicle. Jeep is a poor mans Land Rover, and you dont see LRover making cars.

This car is so crap it’s hard to believe they could make it any crapper if they had tried. Fortunately I don’t wet myself over tailgate speakers and Cooled gloveboxes (whoopeee ****). I prefer quality plastics and a more refined driving experience.

Well Cooper, with such an uncritical pro-jeep stance you just proved that you are 1952 MG TD.
The Patriot is ugly, has ****ty interior plastics, if it is based on the Compiss and Caliper it will have an inferior driving experience (Motor Trend stated that the Compass needed to play catch-up to the Koreans)

This vehicle will be going up against the Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson twins. Jeep manages to package in safety gear like stability control, head curtain airbags, traction control, rollover mitigation, and brake force distribution. It beats them in fun innovative options like the refrigerated glovebox, and fold down tailgate speakers. But what impresses me the most though is it has all that, and still beats them in price by thousands.

This is good news. I will take a serious look at this model and the Tiguan before I make my decision…I can get both of them with a Diesel engine (which apparently is the exact same engine too, a VW 2.0L TDI engine with a Mitsubishi-sourced turbocharger – I’m not particularly happy with that turbo, but that’s not my decision). Anyway, if anyone knows of another small SUV/cross-over with a Diesel engine, just post ‘em here.

Where Chrysler f-ed up is in designing two inferior Jeep variants of the new Compass platform instead of a proper PT Cruiser replacement. Nothing like letting your signature niche vehicle (the only one that actually sold in the early 2000s) wither on the vine for 8 model years while other competitors develop superior alternatives.

While I think this is more “Jeep like” then the compass its still not a real Jeep, even if a version of it is supposed to be trail rated I just don’t see this vehicle being a true off roader…or a true jeep for that matter

If they build these tri-cars with better interior, the price will start under 20 grand. Yes, the interior is wayyy cheap-looking, but anything to keep the price down to 15 grand to start.

Some peeps can’t afford small cars that cost 20 grand. They have a chance to get one this Patroit, Caliber and Compass (which it should die…..now). Give Chrysler a break.

You want this kind of vehicle in this class, but with better interior? Get a Honda Fit.
