Isn’t Cerbus doing what raiders did in the 80’s and 90’s ? Buy companies in trouble then sell the valuable assets.

Next they will sell “Jeep”, then sell what remains to another car company.

Just the beginning of what Cerberus is going to do to this company!! Slice and dice. Shedding and splitting until its a shell for someone else to buy for some more profit. Not one real car guy is at the helm now, and that will lead to its destruction. Car companies need both car nuts and bean counters…will they learn that in time??

Mopar = Ford Performance Racing Parts/GM Performance . . . they carry crate engines and such. . . still wouldn’t like to see it dropped though

I would think that the overlap between Mopar and what other parts of Cerberus would make them ideal to look at combining/cutting them as needed.

if they sell Mopar Parts or any part of the name to anyone else, i will have lost all faith in the world. MOPAR can only be associated with Chrysler. its like saying your AMG really isnt a Mercedes or you M isnt a Bimmer, or your Honda…well who cares about Hondas.

but then again, im sure this is LLN reporting on something that isnt true, so im not too worried

ugh… you people…. not quite, yes they make Performace parts… but they’re not equivalent to “M” or “AMG” in that respect, you would compare those to SRT. Mopar is Chryslers parts and service division… period. You want a stock replacement alternator, you go through Mopar. Hence the reason they are called “Mopars” because they’re made from “Mopar” parts. I really don’t give a flying-f about the Transport division, but they’re going to sell their soul if they drop Mopar. If they go through with this I’m afraid all of the “slash and burn” worries may indeed be coming true. This is a sad sad day indeed.

Chrysler will definitely survive something like that, but it IS a part of their history. While I don’t use MOPAR (and never have), I’d hate to see something so storied just dropped like that. They should have it integrated like Ford does with their SVT.

It’s true, Andre Nerves put it into a conservative sort of view.

Mopar to me is what Shebly is to Ford, although there’s not much of a comparison between cars since Shelby isn’t unique to Ford, it’s the just of the message.

Currently though, I haven’t seen much of Mopar lately. I say downsize Mopar, and make it a more independant tuning company but more or less specifically for Chrysler, such as Shelby is. This would make Mopar more independent, but still intertwined with Chrysler and it’s history. Usually when designing or tuning firms go private, or reduce in size

Standard business practice. Identify what’s core and sell off everything else. In this case, what they’re weighing is the increased sales they get through MOPAR. If MOPAR is a profit generator, it stays. If it’s breaking even or just ‘bringing intagible value’, then it goes.
But to agree with Neves, letting MOPAR go would be a sad, sad day for performance enthusiasts

Deanster, it is not just about bolt-on visuals. Mopar is and has been the Performance division for years. Mopar is a huge chunk of chrysler’s history. This is just sad news, especialy for the older crowd.
This is like BMW saying that their “M” division is shutting down.

I don’t know what Mopar does, but if all they do is stock and install bolt-on visuals like skirt kits for the Caliber SRT, then xxxx’em. Out they go.

The transport group, I don’t know anything about that.
