Wait, I got one. The Audi 80. THAT was a good car from the late 80's. I still see them around today - their build quality was exceptional and one guy I know says his is essentially rattle-free after 2 decades.

The K-cars came from the 80's. What car from the 80's was NOT a shitbox, other than some very high-end Benzes like the 500 SEC and SEL? Even BMWs from that era were rancid, and don't even mention Toyota and Honda, the little rustbuckets that couldn't.

AmGoff, I'm not the one that created the K-car bashing. But they are bashed nonetheless because of what they were -not for what they enabled Chrysler to do. Certainly the cars I rode in were junk. They rattled, and the engine may have been reliable (I don't remember), but the rest of the drivetrain and suspension was anything but. The headliners dropped after a couple of years and the paint jobs were horrible. Those are just the things I remember as a kid. Again, my point was that the the new logo reminds me too much of those times in American auto history when the cars were crap. Your opinion may differ, but history will say otherwise. Also, I see Yugos on the street too every so often. Does that make it a good car?

Guys, all this xxxxing bashing of the Compass and Patriot. I drove a Compass, it was totally fine. Quick, smooth, comfortable, surprisingly spacious.

Build quality was fine. Not BMW territory, but it's a sub-20k box with 4WD, perfect for someone on a budget in a snowy climate. What's the xxxxing problem? It's not like they're gunning for Mercedes with it, it's an ENTRY LEVEL JEEP.

AMGoff, you're kind of right -- the K-car is supposed to be such crap, but from time to time, you see one that's still running.

veda: I always wonder about that, why jews are so quick to buy benzes. maybe it's a nrevenge thing

Me: The aries/reliant were probably chrysler's last crappy cars. Unless you consiuder the Neon crappy.
Now some of their newer cars, the two small jeeps and the nitro, don't work for me, but they're almost certainly more sensible purchases than their toyonda "rivals."

Please define "junk?" They were reliable and economical. They were perfect for their time and it was the profits of those k-cars which help Chrysler to pay back their loans seven years ahead of schedule as it was the same profits which helped developed the LH cars. Trying looking at things in context. Certainly when we look back at them now they are pretty crappy but so is a Buick of that time, so is a Toyota of that time. But all of those cars served their purpose. If they were such junk then why do I see more k-cars on the road today than I do Toyondans from the same period?

AMGoff, You'd have to be a die-hard Mopar head to appreciate the K-car. They are the butt of jokes because they were crap. Anybody who says otherwise is delusional. More than anything, they remind me of the time when every car available was crap -they symbolize the industry at the time. They were the reason cab-foward was such a success. Everyone was tired of the boxy, cheaply made, crap that Chrysler was putting out for so many years prior to that. Aries, Reliant, LeBaron, -please, the only reason they sold was because they were cheap and nobody back then could afford anything else. The minivan is an entirely different story however. That was a great move by Chrysler. I am bit of a Chrysler fan too, but I know junk when I see it. The big three are guilty of producing junk more times than I care to count.

Star of David? They can probably sell more cheap cars here in US with a cross instead of a star. So they should exchange logos with Mercedes since the Jews are the ones yelling holocaust but dig Mercedes. LOL

I just hope they don't start putting this emblem on the front lower fender like GM is doing with all of their cars/trucks. The GM emblem on the fender must of came from Lutz or Wagner, or some other nucklehead board member at GM. I'm sure it didn't come from the stylists or designers. They need to stop worrying about their stock price and trading symbol and leave it off of the vehicle!!

Ricardo Head, why would a Star of David do anyone any good in Mecca? The Star of David is the symbol of Judaism, and Mecca is the holiest place in Islam, which is symbolized by a Cresent Moon. Did you mean Jerusalem instead?

Who cares about the logo when they make crappppy cars anyway? I have hardly ever seen new cars/crossovers/SUVs been slammed so much in tests/ test drives as the POS like the JEEP Compass and the Patriot and the Dodge Caliber and Nitro. And I personally agree whit those tests. It makes me think where the Korean cars where 15 years back. The interiors are just hideous and material quality sux. No wonder they are in trouble. I'm surprised that the Germans (Merc) were not able to get that part right, but it is probably because they are not used to designing cheep cars.

ANY european brand makes better interiors, even the smalles Fiat, Renault, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda etc. have better quality feel and design in their interiors.

And what about exterior design? How can a company that have designed cool prototypes, and even introduced cars like the Viper, 300/ Magnum, PT Cruiser (Starting to become quite outdated), ingenious mini-Vans, come up with ugly and bland cars/ SUVs like the Sebring, the Calibe, the Compass +++
Something is terribly wrong somewhere........ And the american consumers will continue showing that until they start getting things right. (Why would anyone buy a Korean car if the US made cars where better, or at least as good?)

Personally I think that among the big 2 and a half these days, GM has the better vehicles (Even if Ford traditionally has been my favorite US car company), Ford is second and Chrysler is sadly behind. I hope that the new owners get things right, and remember that it is not GM and Ford who is the benchmark.

Ahhh... good to get that off my chest.....

"Hate to see that on the front of a 300"

You won't. This is just their corporate logo. Chrysler division will still use its winged logo. Kind of like GM with its corporate logo, you don't see it on the front of its cars in place of the Chevy bowtie. Anyway, I'm glad Chrysler is back to being an American company.

It has nothing to do with what it looks like nor do I expect anyone who is not a Mopar fan to appreciate it. But to those who love the company and have spent years supporting them and buying their products the Pentastar is a beautiful thing. There is nothing wrong with reaching back to a company's past, especially if that company is as storied as Chrysler. What's wrong with being reminded of the K-car? How is it that the K-car has become the butt of so many jokes? As I've said many times before it was the k-car and the minivan which rescued Chrysler in the 80s. They were decent, practical, economical, dependable and just what Chrysler needed at the time. An 80's Toyondan is equally pathetic when compared to cars of today. The pentastar should go back where it belongs, right behind the wheel well of every new Chrysler product. If you don't like the company to begin with how can you possibly appreciate this?

personally, i don't think it's that impressive.

i was under the impression that this would be used only for corporate letterhead and is not for use on the actual vehicles.

The story doesn't say this will be the logo used on the front of their vehicles. I wonder if this is instead a side badge similar to the badge used on all GM built autos.

I wonder if they'll place these badges on the door of every Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep made like GM is doing the GM badge. I hope not. I see this logo and think K-car all over again.

Wow. Chrysler really needs to spend more ad money on logos. I think the new CEO just got a ruler and sketched this thing himself with a pencil.

Should've made the backplate round. Looks too old and edgy, certainly far from elegant or beautiful. Better yet they should've made the star fatter so it doesn't look like the old logo.

It looks better than the logo in the 1980's but come on now, 2 points of the star are gone. Chrysler is calling itself the New Chrysler and they should have come up with a design for their logo that was all new. I hope that this does not show how backward this new company is.
